A Message from Ms. Kirshman
New Beginnings!
Welcome to Trimester Three! As we embark on this new phase of the school year, let's embrace the opportunity it brings for a fresh start and renewed energy. I encourage each student, teacher, and staff member to see this as a chance to recommit to your educational and professional goals.
Let's take a moment to reflect on the recent past and consider areas where we can improve. Let's be intentional about our actions and strive for improved outcomes.
One key area we all need to focus on is attendance. It's crucial that each of us is present and fully engaged to make the most of our instructional programs.
- Students, your presence in class allows you to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of your teachers.
- Teachers, your presence is essential for students who rely on your guidance and support.
- Support staff, your presence ensures our programs run smoothly and efficiently.
- And as for myself, my presence allows me to connect with our students and maintain the relationships that are vital to our success.
Let's all commit to being present and engaged, working together toward our common goal. Together, we can make Trimester Three a success for everyone!

Virtual High School - High School Mentor Meetings Tomorrow at 10:00am
KPS Virtual High School Program:
KPS Virtual High School
KPS Virtual High School students should have received an email from their grade level mentor. All high school students are required to attend a class meeting at 10:00 on Monday morning. This meeting allows the mentor to personally deliver each student's schedule and review their courses, meeting times, Google Meet links, and study time suggestions for the trimester. Mentors will schedule these individual meetings between Monday and Wednesday. Thursday will be the first day of live synchronous classes.

Welcome Ms. Griffioen!
Welcome Ms. Griffioen!
We are happy to have Ms. Jessica Griffioen as a part of our KPS Virtual Program Staff. Students with an IEP have a strong advocate in Ms. Griffioen. She brings to the students and families a wealth of knowledge from her experiences with all levels! She is passionate about her students and makes sure that General Education teachers have the tools they need to support students with accommodations.
We are so happy to have her as a part of our team!
Welcome Ms. Knickerbocker!
Welcome Ms. Knickerbocker
We are excited to welcome Ms. Knickerbocker who will be serving as our Attendance Interventionist! She boasts a history of of community intervention and support, and we know she will do the same for our students. One of the most important things that lend to academic and social/emotional success is attending school on a regular basis. She will be reaching out to students and families to assist with student abseentism, so that students improve before they are exited from our programs. She will be assisting with the legal weekly attendance process of obtaining Two-Way Interactions (TWI's) from our students. Ms. Knickerbocker will help us with developing and monitoring behavior plans focused on attendance.
Enter Spring Assessment Season!!
March and April are our primary testing months for all students!
KILP and KPS Virtual Students who need to take the WIDA test (you should have been notified already), will be testing is this week. This is only for English Language Learners.
We will be doing M-Step testing for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at the West Main Professional Center by their own teachers during the week of April 9th in order to keep everyone together instead of sending all students to their home buildings.
KILP and KPS Virtual will need to report to the CEC Building (our 3rd floor) on April 9th and/or 10th, and 11th, depending on their grade. We will be testing PSAT 8, PSAT 9, PSAT 10 and SAT, along with M-Step and ACT WorkKeys for 11th grade students.
We are testing high school students in our own building this year. We feel that testing in an environment that is more comfortable and familiar when possible is best. Needless to say, students will not be testing at their home buildings this year.
It's important to note that the 11th grade assessments are required for graduation at KPS.
More information will be coming soon.
Attendance Reminder
Attendance is Mandatory for all Virtual and Hybrid Programs!
Weekly Two-Way Interactions (TWI) are mandatory for virtual or hybrid program students. These interactions require mentor teachers to discuss student progress or performance every week for attendance. Failure to complete TWIs results in 5 absences. If absences reach 10, parents are required to meet with the student's administrator, and before 30 days, they may be asked to meet with Central Office Staff. At 30 days, students are at risk of being exited from the program.
Both KILP and KPS Virtual students must meet attendance requirements. Failure to do so could result in losing their seat to students on the waiting list.
Consistent attendance demonstrates commitment, a valuable life skill important for both academic and future career success.
Students in both programs are expected to dedicate around 30 hours per week to their education. KPS Virtual Program students attending 10-12 hours of synchronous courses should plan for an additional 18-20 hours of independent Canvas coursework. KILP HS students attending 6 hours of live instruction should plan for approximately 24 hours of independent Courseware coursework each week.
KILP Attendance Incentive Program - Extrinsic Rewards working toward Intrinsic Rewards!
Attendance at the CORE!
KILP HS students are being rewarded for their commitment to positive attendance! Every student has received a punch card with 10 hole punches.
At 3 days = A giant candy bar or snack.
At 10 days = A positive visit to the Principal's office to exchange their card for a "gold card", along with a stylus pen and keychain that says, "Be proud of the person you are, the work that you do, and the difference you make."
At 20 days = Another positive visit to the Principal's office to exchange their "gold card" for an upgraded gold card and a stainless steel tumbler with another motivational saying.
At 30 days = A positive visit to the Principal's office for a KILP long sleeve t-shirt!
Some of them are rocking their attendance!
