April, where did you go?
A huge congratulations to our students to finishing this year’s South Dakota State Assessment! It takes a lot out of our students to sit and work quietly on the challenging tests. Next week we will have makeup tests for those students that were gone. I am very proud of our students' grit and determination and am excited to see how much they have grown this year when all the results are in.
Next Wednesday, the 8th graders will be touring Custer High School. While we are there, students will be shown around the school and introduced to different classes and teachers they may have. We end the tour by asking questions to past Hermosa alumni that are now seniors at Custer High School. Even if your child isn’t planning on attending Custer for High School, it is a great opportunity to be exposed to what High School is like, and learn about classes available. A huge component of our tour is meeting with the High School Counselor, Mrs. French, and learning about the different diplomas available, what is required of them and how to sign up for classes next year. It’s a big bonus we will be there on Market Day where High school students get to showcase food and dessert items they have created. If your child wants to try something, please have them remember to bring money.
Next week for counseling lessons, 8th grade will continue researching one career they were matched with. 5th grade will have a transition lesson as we discuss the differences between Middle School and Elementary and celebrate this exciting time in their lives! 4th grade will work on their problem solving unit with Second Step and figure out they can become better problem solvers in their conflicts. Kindergarten will read How to Apologize and practice apologizing after accidents after we learn how apologizing can help fix problems with our Second Step lesson.
Have a great weekend!
