REPORT CARDS FOR SEMESTER 1
Parents will be emailed a “report card” the week of January 16th. The report card will indicate their student’s progress on any standards that have been instructed on and assessed up to the Winter Holiday Break.
The report card will be emailed to Contact 1 and Contact 2 from the Household tab in PowerSchool. Please make sure PowerSchool has been updated with your current email addresses in these two contacts. Instructions on how to update email addresses can be found on the public site: Assessing and Reporting Grades | West Ada School District.
FROM THE TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
In January, the WASD IT Department will begin sending e-mail notifications to families who have purchased a device protection plan when their student's device has suffered any damage or loss that is covered under the plan. Previously, families may not have been aware that a student's device had been damaged and that the Device Protection plan had been used. Please note that the plan covers the first incident, but subsequent incidents result in a $20 fine.
If you have any questions concerning Optional Device Protection or outstanding balances in our online payment system, Rycor, to email onlinepayments@westada.org for support.
TOOL OF THE MONTH: Taking Time Tool
As our committee works on building these lessons for the staff and discussing the needs of our students, we have decided to expand this information to include snippets for parents. So, here is the first snippet for the tool we will focus on this month.
KEEPING WALKS CLEAR
Parents who walk their students to the gate entrance near the bike rack in the morning, we please ask that you do not congregate on the sidewalk. The sidewalks have been plowed so students can safely enter the campus. Recently, the walks have been blocked by parents and strollers .
We appreciate your help with this matter!
WEST ADA WINTER RAFFLE NOW BENEFITS PVE
PVE is now part of the WASD Winter Raffle. West Ada Fundraiser – West Ada Schools Activities Fundraiser
Ticket sales will end on January 17th, and we will be selecting finalists at the January 22nd Board Meeting. (See the attachment for prizes being given away) Tickets are $75.00 each plus the credit card fee of $3.00. PVE will receive $71.00 for each ticket sold in our school's name. Ticket sales are only available online at the website.
INCLEMENT WEATHER NOTIFICATIONS
Please make sure your PowerSchool information is up to date, as this is the information that is used for all emergency items and communication. The WASD and Pleasant View will use this information to contact families through text and email to alert you to school closures or other emergencies.
We also ask that those who utilized Cascade Transportation be aware of the delays through the use of the Traversa App. During these winter months, there are often several delay notifications sent.
Also, please give yourself extra time when roads are slick. We are not able to change tardies due to slower traffic. Please plan accordingly.
COLD WEATHER IS HERE
Please be sure to send your child to school ready for the elements. If the temperatures are above 20 degrees, including wind chill, we are outside for recess. Unless there is a doctor's note, ALL students are expected to go out. Snow does not stop our play time, nor does a little sprinkle of rain.
Also, if you worry about your child's clothes potentially getting wet, please send them with a backup outfit, as the school does not have enough clothing for those who tend to enjoy playing in the snow.
A FEW STAFF CHANGES
PRESCHOOL
With the new year comes a few changes:
Catherine McCaffery has had to make the hard decision to take a leave of absence to support her daughter and her needs. We will still see her from time to time-- Once a Pronghorn, always a Pronghorn! We wish her all the best as she navigates the needs on the home front.
With that, we welcome Paula Spratt who will finish out the year with us as a morning preschool teacher. We are thrilled to have her join our PVE Team.
Meet Mrs. Paula Spratt
Hello! My name is Paula Spratt, and I am honored to join you for the remainder of the year! I have been living in Idaho for almost 4 years with my husband and 4 teenagers, having moved from the Las Vegas area. I have been working for West Ada in the GT Department and also doing testing for Special Education. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development from The Ohio State University as well as a Master's Degree from Baldwin-Wallace University and am certified in Idaho to teach both Elementary General Education as well as Early Childhood Special Education. I was a preschool teacher in Maryland where I taught a self-contained class for students with autism. I also taught in Nevada, self-contained autism, grades K-3 and then in Gen Ed Kindergarten, as well. I love all ages, but preschool has a special place in my heart. I think making connections with families and students is one of the most rewarding parts of working in Early Childhood and I am so excited for the opportunity to get to know you and your children. When I'm not working or playing taxicab at home, I love reading and gardening, and I am a cardio dance instructor with Shine Dance Fitness, so I spend a lot of time dancing at my happy place. Best wishes to you and yours over the holiday break and I'm excited to see you when we're back in January!
Sincerely,
Paula
SAFE SCHOOL ASSISTANT
Mr. Paul will be moving to our ERR position to help support the great needs we have there and our hard to fill position, I think he will be a great asset to this specific area. Paul will continue to help with crossing guard duty and fill in with noon duty until we can find person to join us in our need for coverage at recess.
Duffy Lyles, our current lunchroom duty, will be moving into the SSA position. She is excited to learn the PVE WAY for all areas and support our noon duties, BRTI team, and all staff and students. She will be training these next couple of weeks, so please be patient as we work to get all duties on board and give her a crash course in the world of PVE!
Meet Duffy Lyles
Hello,
My name is Duffy Lyles. My family and I relocated here last year from California. My son is currently a first grader here at Pleasant View. I also have been part of the Pronghorn team for the last 4 months, working with the lunch and noon duty staff.
I am very excited to have been presented with this opportunity as the new SSA. Over the next several weeks I will be focusing on learning the “Pronghorn Way” to ensure that all students adhere to the safety and conduct expectations of our Pronghorn Family.
I am thankful for all the warm welcomes, and I look forward to learning and growing alongside your children in this next semester.
Sincerely,
Duffy
UPCOMING PTA EVENTS
Idaho Steelheads Night February 2
General PTA Meeting Feb 7, 2024
WASD ART COMPETITION
It is time for the annual District Art Show artwork projects to begin. The District Art Show is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 18, 2024. However, submissions are due to the front office by February 1, 2023.
This year, the theme for elementary will be “Nature’s Beauty.”
*Please note that PVE may only send ONE piece to the district office for the art show, so we will narrow down the submission and have staff and student voting to help chose our winning piece to represent PVE.
**Please make sure you follow the district guidelines for the submission and do not place student name on the front of the piece.
Pronghorn Pacers
Have some time in your schedule to help support the running club at PVE? Sign up to help scan passes as students make their laps.
Need To Make A Change In How Your Child Gets Home? Checking Out a Student?
Please get in touch with the office before 3:00 for any last-minute changes at the end of the day, so we have plenty of time to communicate with staff members. (If preplanned, please email both the teacher and office.)
If you are coming in at the end of the day to check out a student, please note we will not call students down after 3:45 pm. They are already cleaning up and transitioning for release at the end of the day.
Thank you for being so understanding!
OTHER EVENTS IN THE AREA
Cell Phones, Smart Watches, and Gizmos
Cell phones are to be off and in backpacks. Students may not use them while on the school campus, beginning at drop off and ending when picked up. If the device allows, watches must be silenced or on school mode. These may remain on their wrist as long as they can be utilized as a tool and not a toy, meaning they are not used during the school day, nor should students play with the item.
If a student needs to contact a parent, a staff member or student will use a classroom or office phone. Students should not contact parents on their devices during the school day or receive calls from family members. Don't hesitate to contact the front office if you need to have a message sent to your student before the end of the day, preferably before 3:00.
I know safety and communication with your children are essential; we value and respect this. We ask that you make sure to work with your children about the school expectations with these devices.
If the items are not used correctly or become a distraction, the item will remain with an adult until the end of the day. If the problem persists, the item will be turned in to Mrs. Senethavilay, and she will call to have a parent pick up the device.
Thank you for understanding and working with us as we continue to maintain privacy for all and limit interruptions to the learning environment.
