Choir Audition Announcement
It's that time of year again! The BHS Chamber Choir and Treble Choir are holding auditions for next year's groups! Auditions will take place TUESDAY - THURSDAY: March 26th - 28th. If you are interested in being a part of one of these auditioned choirs, please sign up for an audition using the QR code on the attached flyer!
Auditions are open to all current BHS students, as well as all incoming 8th graders who will be with us next year. There are no prerequisites for the audition, and all that is required is to prepare 30 seconds to a minute of your favorite song!
The Chamber and Treble Choir are Brunswick High School's Honors Choirs, which perform in all of our BHS Chorus Concerts as well as travel for trips and festivals abroad. They have performed throughout the Brunswick community and the state of Maine, as well as in New York City, Washington D.C., Disney World, and even Fenway Park! If you enjoy singing and performing, then this is the place for you! Singers of all levels are encouraged to audition!
If you would like to be a part of the BHS Choirs, but you do not want to have to go through the audition process, simply add Concert Choir to your schedule for next year! All are welcome and no audition is necessary!
Seal of Biliteracy
Do you speak more than one language?
Are you currently in or have you completed an AP world language class?
Then you may be eligible for the Seal of Biliteracy!
It’s an award that recognizes graduating students for having a high degree of skill in English and one or more additional languages. Nearly all states in the United States now offer this award, celebrating multilingualism and giving students an edge for their post-secondary studies and/or future careers. Some universities offer credit or other advantages to students who have earned the Seal.
You’re considered proficient in English if you’ll have completed our school’s English requirement for graduation by June, 2024. There are a number of ways to demonstrate literacy or proficiency in another language, including certain standardized test scores oral proficiency interviews and other pathways.
For more information see;
https://www.maine.gov/doe/learning/content/world-language/biliteracy
scroll down the page for info on eligibility.
If you think that you may be interested and eligible, please contact Mrs. Duncan lduncan@brunswicksd.org.

Members of the BHS Honors Wind Ensemble were named
National Finalists for the American Prize for Chamber Ensemble Performance
Students Isabella Purnell-Amaez ('24), Jim Lantieri ('24), Hannah Wilkoff ('23), and Brody Belanger ('23) of the Brunswick High School Honors Wind Ensemble have been named National Finalists for the American Prize for Chamber Ensemble Performance! Their recognition comes from their quartet performance from last year's spring concert of an incredibly complex yet powerful piece titled Re(new)al by composer Viet Cuong. Linked below is their performance in case you missed it!
BHS Most Represented School in Eastern US at ACDA Conference
March is “Music In Our Schools Month,” (MIOSM). Many BHS Choirs started the month of
celebration with a trip to the American Choral Directors Association’s Eastern Regional
Conference in Providence, RI from February 28 - March 2. Students are chosen to participate
based on an audition process. Brunswick Maine was the most-represented school at the
entire festival, with 29 students chosen to participate. The next largest group from any other
school, including those from Boston, New York, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, was 17!!
Our students did Brunswick proud with their careful preparation and respectful engagement with
the great opportunities provided to them. They were able to meet and work directly with
internationally recognized performers and educators. For example, members of Brunswick’s
“Acapetal” ensemble were able to consult with England’s renowned “VOCES8” ensemble about
a VOCES8 piece they are preparing a for the BHS Spring Concert on May 31. Another highlight
was the chance to delve into music from cultures that might be underrepresented here at home,
and to find ways to engage with those traditions with respect.
To help support the cost of this trip for a much larger number of students than anticipated, the
BHS Music Boosters has a goal to gain ONE DONATION EACH DAY IN MARCH and to raise
$10,000 by the end of this year. Please spread the word as this fundraising is crucial to allowing
all Brunswick music students the chance to participate in life-changing experiences like the
ACDA festival. To donate, you can text DRAGONMUSIC to 53-555, visit

2024-2025 Course Registration Update
The Powerschool portal opened up to students Monday 3/11/24 during Flex for all grade 9-11 students to select course requests for next year. The portal will be open until the end of the day 3/22/24 for students in grades 9-11. Directions were sent via email to all students as well as to Flex teachers to assist in the process during Flex meetings.
The 2024-25 Course Book is available on our website (https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vRDXOUGwUYSc0ZltWeanjoKUb5Gjo_soqRyYr8ZxslEZmIYrwV_wGthtBAdinxUz_tm2WKSlUeKesp4/pub).
Students should discuss appropriate placement for next year’s classes with their teachers and have them initial their registration forms to indicate that discussion occurred. All guardians should sign the paper registration forms as well. Once the forms are completed, students should give them to Flex teachers for collection (by 3/22/24).
If you or your student have any questions or concerns in regards to selecting courses for next year, please feel free to reach out to teachers, case managers (of students with IEPs), and school counselors.

Naviance How To
All students have access to this resource that BHS uses for a variety of purposes in the process of investigating career paths and post secondary education options. If students have not yet accessed their Naviance account, they should be doing this in Flex (juniors will be getting passwords next week, in the event your student hasn’t logged in yet).
All students can take a variety of surveys to investigate areas of interest and career pathways and eventually start their list of potential colleges to apply to as seniors.
How to access Naviance:
Naviance can be used to help explore careers and college options/searches. In grade 12 Naviance is used (as a data management tool) to send out all materials from BHS for college applications - including transcripts and letters of recommendation.
1. Go to the BHS Website
2. Select Explore on the top right of the page.
3. Under the Student Column, there is Naviance listed.
4. Type in 04011 for the zip code and select Brunswick High School
5. Usernames are the prefix of emails for BHS (do not include the @portion)
6. Passwords should have been set in Flex or when meeting with school counselors for grades 9 and 10, grade 11 students may have them now or will get them next week.
Where to start?--- Go to Self- Discovery (at top) Complete the surveys!
Reminder - Seniors
Seniors-- you should be indicating in Naviance the responses you are receiving from colleges (acceptances) along with the school you plan on attending (once you know). Check with your counselor if you aren’t sure how to do this.
