EDUCATOR OF THE WEEK
For this week's Educator of the Week recognition, we chose to celebrate a group of educators who work as an amazing team in the Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) at the South River School. This week's Educators of the Week are Rich Azuley, Ellie Fleming, Kristen Robicheau, Carolyne Ventricelli
Isabella Coppenrath, Jane Carper, Kathy Healy & Deirdre Fleming. These talented educators do a fantastic job individually and when they work together in the TLC, they are able to meet the specific needs of many of our students.
Principal Baird put it best when she noted that, "The TLC at South River School is a shining example of excellence in the Marshfield Public Schools because of the staff members who exhibit kindness, care, dedication, and support towards their students and each other every single day. They help students face challenges on a daily basis and work tirelessly to meet all the individual needs of their students. Their reliability and dependability are second to none and they constantly go the extra mile to ensure student success. They have a genuine enthusiasm and care for each other as a team and exhibit collaborative problem solving each day. Their supportive teamwork is the glue that keeps the program running. Our TLC is a team to celebrate today and always!"
Congratulations to our eight Educators of the Week. We are fortunate to have them on our team and they exemplify all that is good in the MPSD. #WeRMarshfield
MPSD TIERED FOCUS MONITORING REVIEW
During the week of May 6, 2024, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Public School Monitoring (PSM) will conduct a Tiered Focused Monitoring Review of Marshfield Public Schools. The Office of Public School Monitoring visits each district and charter school every three years to monitor compliance with federal and state special education and civil rights regulations. Areas of review related to special education include student assessments, determination of eligibility, the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team process, and IEP development and implementation. Areas of review related to civil rights include bullying, student discipline, physical restraint, and equal access to school programs for all students.
In addition to the onsite visit, parent outreach is an important part of the review process. The review chairperson from the Office of Public School Monitoring will send all parents of students with disabilities an online survey that focuses on key areas of their child’s special education program. Survey results will contribute to the development of a report. During the onsite review, the Office of Public School Monitoring will interview the chairperson(s) of the district’s Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). Other onsite activities may include interviews of district staff and administrators, reviews of student records, and onsite observations.
Parents and other individuals may call Henry Ndakalu, Public School Monitoring Chairperson, at (781) 338-3706 to request a telephone interview. If an individual requires an accommodation, such as translation, to participate in an interview, the Department will make the necessary arrangements.
Within approximately 60 business days after the onsite visit, the review chairperson will provide Marshfield with a report with information about areas in which the district meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and areas in which the district requires assistance to correct or improve practices. The public will be able to access the report at http://www.doe.mass.edu/psm/tfm/reports/.
MHS SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS
A message from the MHS Guidance Office that was sent to families on February 7th:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Each school year, Marshfield High School is fortunate enough to award graduating seniors scholarships thanks to the generosity of the local community. Most impressively, over $250,000 in scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors last year. In turn, we strongly encourage all members of the class of 2024 to review the available scholarships and determine if they are eligible to apply. During an assembly this morning, seniors were provided an overview of the scholarship program. This included a demonstration on how to access the available scholarships, applications, and step-by-step instructions on how to apply and submit their applications using their Guidance Canvas page. Parents may also view the instructions, applications and list of available scholarships on their child’s Guidance Canvas page. All scholarship applications/submissions are due no later than March 7, 2024 at 2PM. Students may reach out to their guidance counselor with questions at any time.
Sincerely,
Kerran Goff, M.Ed.
Guidance Coordinator
MHS MOCK TRIAL RECOGNIZED BY SCHOOL COMMITTEE
At the February 27th School Committee meeting, the MHS Mock Trial Team was recognized in the Spotlight on Excellence segment of the meeting. Members of the team spoke about the hard work that is put in on a daily basis, as the team prepares for competitions. In addition, they walked the Committee through portions of their mock trial presentations.
Their work ethic, attention to detail and presentation skills were quite impressive. They will be taking part in the State Mock Trial Competition this weekend and we wish them the best.
