During the week of May 13, 2024 the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Public School Monitoring’s Office of Language Acquisition will conduct a review of English Language Learner Education services of the Maynard Public Schools. The Office of Public School Monitoring visits each district and charter school every three years to monitor compliance with federal and state regulations governing MultiLingual Learner services.
In addition to interviews with staff members and review of randomly selected student records, parent outreach is also an important part of the review process. The parents of randomly selected students who receive MultiLingual services will receive an online survey from the Office of Language Acquisition review chairperson focusing on key areas of their child’s MultiLingual program. Survey results will contribute to the development of a report. Other activities during the review process by the Office of Language Acquisition will include interviews of district staff and administrators and review of student records.
Parents and other individuals may call Andy McDonie, Office of Language Acquisition Education Lead, at 781-338-3541 to request a telephone interview. If an individual requires an accommodation, such as translation, to participate in an interview, the Department will make the necessary arrangements.
Within 60 business days after the review process is complete, the review chairperson will provide the Maynard Public Schools with a report about areas where the district meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and areas where the district requires assistance to correct or improve practices. The public will also be able to access the report.
