Solar Eclipse 2024
NCPS Solar Eclipse Safety:
The Solar Eclipse will happen tomorrow, April 8, 2024. In North Carolina, the partial eclipse will begin around 2:00pm and peak at approximately 3:17pm when the moon obscures about 81% of the sun. Nash County Public School student and employee safety is of the utmost importance during this experience. Since this peak time is during our dismissal, please remember the following safety precautions during carline pick-up:
- Do not look directly at the sun without proper eye protection, such as solar eclipse glasses or handheld viewers.
- Ensure you have informed your child about the dangers of looking directly at the sun during this event.
Our teachers have been planning learning experiences to help students learn about the rare Solar Eclipse. First, third, and fourth grades have standards that are aligned to the eclipse in their Earth in the Universe strands. Our students will safely view the eclipse through an alternate indirect method of viewing through NASA's Live Streaming Website.
