CELEBRATIONS
Great things are happening at WCS!
On Tuesday, we hosted the U.S. presidential primary election in the WCS cafeteria! With some changes to our menus, classes, and specials, we were able to accommodate this important civic event. Many thanks to the Sagadahoc Sheriff's Department for helping to direct the flow of traffic throughout the day!

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
KELT VISITS 4th GRADE
This week the 4th graders were visited by Kennebec Estuary Land Trust (KELT) as part of their "SALTY" program (Sea Animal Life for Tomorrow's Youth.) This week was session 2, in which kids learned about mollusks' adaptations for survival. They had a chance to dissect a clam to learn about its body parts.
SALTY (Sea Animal Life for Tomorrow's Youth): this is a 5-session program in the classroom with two main objectives: to explore the vast and unique invertebrate species of the Gulf of Maine and the Kennebec Estuary, and to learn the importance of conservation of these species. The sessions are as follows:
1. Introduction to the Gulf of Maine and Invertebrate Species
2. Mollusks: Periwinkles, Clams, Mussels
3. Anthropods: Crabs, Lobsters, Barnacles
4. Echinoderms: Seastars, Sand Dollars, Sea Urchins
5. Squid or Clam Dissection!
WEATHER AT OUR SCHOOL
On Thursday, meteorologist, Ted McInerney came to WCS to broadcast WMTW's "Weather at Your School" segment for the morning news. The students had a chance to be part of the broadcast, and then later in the morning they listened to a presentation on weather phenomena and how the science of meteorology works. This is a fun opportunity that fits well with their Weather science unit. CLICK HERE to check them out!
WHO ARE THE MASKED READERS?
This week we showed our annual Masked Reader videos in honor of Read Across America! Videos of Woolwich staff reading in some fun disguises were played during lunches. Students were able to submit guesses as to who was behind each mask! This year is tougher than ever...can YOU guess who is behind the mask?
HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS
The American Academy of Pediatrics publishes a helpful tip sheet for families called The Well
Child Visit: Why Go and What to Expect. It’s a quick read and a great reminder that regular
check-ups are an important part of monitoring your student’s health and development. Yearly
visits encourage students to develop lifelong healthy habits that promote overall well-being.
Spring is a great time to get back on track and schedule those overdue wellness visits!

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS
Could Your Child Benefit from Mentoring?
When it comes to our children's future, we’re in this together. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick pairs screened positive mentors with youth to create a community where all children achieve success.
We offer school-based mentoring, in which your child is matched with a trained adult volunteer who meets with them weekly at their school for lunch and recess. We also offer community-based mentoring, in which your child and their Big meet to do fun things together on a schedule that works for them.
All our programs are free! Contact your school counselor for more information or visit bbbsbathbrunswick.org.
