CELEBRATIONS
Great things are happening at WCS!
This week the third grade completed their last swim lesson at the Bath Area YMCA. Students were introduced to swim basics, and learned how to be safe in and around water. These are valuable things to know when you live in a state with 2,295 square miles of inland water and over 2,000 coastal islands! (according to Maine.gov)
RUN CLUB
Run Club will be starting after break! We have over 100 students signed up! Shirts should be coming in over break and Mr. Hutchings will hand those out during run club! Reminder to check your schedule as the days are a bit different this year! For the first week grades 3-5 will be on Wednesday and K-2 will be on Thursday! Please have a ride arranged for a 4:00pm pickup!
APRIL VACATION NEXT WEEK
SPECIAL OLYMPICS
Special Olympics Team
On Thursday we sent out our athletes to the Special Olympics Swim event at the Bath Area YMCA. Since January, this group has been training on Free Style, Backstroke and being comfortable in the pool. Each of our students received ribbons in their specific event. We're looking forward to the Track and Field Special Olympics which are happening in May!
ECLIPSE
On Monday, students and staff had a chance to view the beginning stages of the solar eclipse. Each student received eclipse glasses and learned how to use them properly. Gathering together with friends made witnessing this phenomenon even more special!
EAT THE RAINBOW
This week we celebrated "Eat the Rainbow" at WCS. This fun event is supported by the PTA and requires a lot of volunteer action! Students learned about the health benefits of eating different colored fruits and vegetables, and were able to sample a different selection each day. We all dressed in different colors each day to represent the foods that we would be trying. Each morning started with Mr. Hutchings sharing some veggie related info and jokes on the morning announcements, and the week ended with "Rainbow Day" on Friday. Thank you to our PTA and all of the volunteers who helped cut and plate all of the produce. Their hard work ensured that this week was a wild success!

THINGS TO TALK ABOUT
The results are in for the Chickadee and Maine Student Book Award programs! Our 4th-8th grade students had the opportunity to read 3 MSBA books and vote...over 60 students cast a vote. The official MSBA winner is Frizzy by Claribel Ortega which many kids at WCS voted for! Our K-3 students listened to 10 different picture books and voted for their favorite. It was a close race with Chickadee: Criminal Mastermind by Monica Silvie winning at WCS. The official Chickadee Book Award winner is One Turtle’s Last Straw by Elisa Boxer which was the WCS runner up. Ask your own child which book they loved the best!
CHOICES Pre-K will be holding their open house on May 15th at Morse High School from 6-7pm. Stop by to learn more about this option for Pre-K and to complete an application for the placement lottery.
Kindergarten Registration is still happening at WCS! If you are a Woolwich resident and have a child who will be 5 years old ON or BEFORE 10/15/24, please call the school office to get the process started! 207-443-9739
