Good Afternoon Killam Families!
We have an exciting week ahead!
Students will experience the solar eclipse tomorrow from 2:10-2:35 PM with their class. Glasses will be provided to all students! A reminder that you are welcome to join us after dismissal on the back field and hot top for our Solar Eclipse Party! We will play some music and provide glasses to those who have already signed up. Please note the sign up is closed. Feel free to bring a beach chair, blanket, snacks, etc.
Grade 4 will be taking the ELA MCAS tomorrow and Tuesday. Grade 5 will be taking the ELA MCAS on Wednesday and Thursday. Please be sure to read the MCAS email from me the night before.
Everyone is welcome to join our Killam Building Project Community Meeting this Thursday, April 11th at the Killam. More information via email this week.
Lastly, school is closed next week for April Break! School will reopen Monday, April 22nd.
METCO Sweatshirts: Interested in purchasing some METCO swag? Families and community members have been asking about METCO sweatshirts, and now is your chance to get one! Click here to order a METCO sweatshirt in black, mint or classic Reading red! Orders will close on April 16th and there is an estimated 2-week turnaround for orders placed. When completing the form, please list your school address as shipping address. All orders will be delivered to the school and you will be notified when they are ready for pickup.

Field Day- Friday, May 31st!
We are super excited to host our K-5 Field Day on Friday, May 31st, with a rain date of Friday, June 7th!
All K-5 students will participate in stations with their class and we need your help to make this happen! Please sign up for a volunteer slot if you are able to help!
COVID UPDATE
There are new guidelines for returning to school with COVID. Please see below.
You may begin to resume normal activities with precautions if:
- You have not had a fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicines; AND
- Your other symptoms are improving.
- Avoid crowded indoor spaces. Wear a mask anytime you are indoors around other people
- Wash your hands often with soap and warm water. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid spending time with people who are at increased risk for severe disease.

Killam School Building Project
- On Monday April 1, the KSBC held a community meeting with our project OPM Colliers and project architect LBA. Our traffic consultants GPI were also to hand, and site development options were discussed, including robust conversation with residents. Special thanks to Lt. - The next community Meeting on the Killam School project will be held on Thursday, April 11 at 7pm at the school. LBA will be presenting preliminary design alternative for review. Residents are welcome to arrive at 6:30pm for a short tour of the Killam School before the meeting.
- A big thank you to RPD and the DPW for all the work theyโve started doing already to improve traffic and safety around the Killam School. With the measures taken to date, weโve already seen improvements, and expect to see even more as the time goes on!
- Please watch out for pedestrians in crosswalks
- Keep an eye out for kids at all times
- Avoid U-turns during pickup and drop off
- Try to limit parking to one side of the street
- Avoid blocking our neighborsโ driveways
- When parking, avoid blocking sidewalks so pedestrians can safely pass
- Reminder not to make left turns out of the parking loop
- Reminder that drop off starts at 8:15 AM and dismissal is at 2:45 PM
- Please observe posted speed limits, especially on Haverhill St. ..where averages are nearly 40mph in the school zone.
- Finally, the website is now live at www.KillamSchool.com. There you can find a meeting calendar, project updates, background documents, and more. On the website visitors can sign up for specialized CodeRED Community Notifications related to project work and meetings.
