Titan Earth Science Teacher Recognized by Clarkson
Each year Clarkson University solicits nominations from their current students asking them to share how a teacher from their past inspired them. This year our own Titan Science Teacher Extraordinaire Melanie Drury was nominated by her former student Celia Darling (Class of '20). Here is an excerpt of what Celia had to say about the impact of Mrs. Drury on her path:
I am so deeply grateful for your confidence in me, your support of Earth Club, and your continued championing of students’ sustainability work at Thomas. You help kids save the world with the highest level of grace and patience. You have had a profound impact on me and are truly an outstanding educator. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Congratulations Mrs. Drury!!
Earth Week Has Arrived!
Our Earth Club is excited to share with you our events for Earth Week next week. All week we will have the Clash of the Cans competition between the grades to see who can stack their bin to the ceiling first. Make sure that your cans and bottles are nonalcoholic and rinsed before placing them in your class bin.
Monday wear neon because our future is bright!
Monday afternoon Thomas Titans are invited to the AMC theater parking lot at 4:15pm to help clean the area and surrounding woods. Bring a pair of gloves and let's clean up our town!
Tuesday, wear green to remind us to make green choices.
Tuesday after school is our second annual Houseplant Workshop from 3:30-4 in my classroom 205. Come learn how to care for plants in your home, how to propagate them, and take home a plant of your own!
Tuesday and Wednesday next week we have our Spring Thrift Fair in the Library during lunch blocks. All items are clean and new or gently used. Bring your cash and find a new fit.
Wednesday wear thrifted clothes and tell your first block teacher about it! ThredUp and Poshmark are online sites where you can thrift if you don't have the chance to attend the Thomas thrift fair on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Thursday wear appropriate beachwear in hopes that summer weather is right around the corner.
During lunch blocks on Thursday if the weather is nice head outside in the courtyard to play beach games and enjoy some fresh air.
Friday is Class Color Day and the last day to bring in nonalcoholic cans and bottles.
Proceeds from all Earth Week events will go towards improving our school environment and we are going to install a rain garden in the Counseling Center courtyard next month. Dressing up, attending Earth Week events, and participating in Clash of the Cans all earns points toward the World Cup. Last year the Seniors won but which class will it be this year?
