Superintendent's Update
Hello Cadet Nation!
I hope everyone had the opportunity to use their eclipse glasses yesterday. For the most part, the weather cooperated and the rain held off until later in the day. Some clouds blocked the view throughout the entire process. Still, experiencing the darkness of night in the middle of the afternoon was a wonder to behold. According to NASA, there will not be another total solar eclipse on that same path until the year 2317! It was truly a once in a lifetime experience.
Taking the day off for the eclipse altered our schedule for this week. Since everyone was out yesterday, ALL students are scheduled to be in school this Friday, April 12th. This will be a regular school day with each campus's start and stop times.
On Friday, April 4th, Connally High School hosted the UIL Academic Meet for our 23-AAAA District. The meeting was well managed, with many compliments from other districts. This is thanks to our staff, who volunteered to assist with the event. In addition to being fabulous hosts, we had several students who truly shined in their respective competitions during the academic meet. When all events were completed and scored, Connally placed 2nd overall! We also have the overall 1st place journalism team and 3rd place speech team. The list below includes all who participated in the various events and, if applicable, the place they earned at the meet. Those who placed 1st-3rd will advance to the Regional Academic UIL contest later this month:
Bringing the district championship back to Connally ISD is a goal for our district. Since 2000, Connally has won the district academic championship 13 different times. We will accomplish this again as we continue raising the Cadet Standard. It has been exciting to see the growth and enthusiasm for UIL this year from 2nd grade through high school.
The evening schedules for athletic events will now slow down a bit for some. The regular season track meets are complete; therefore, the year's junior high athletic events are done. The high school track teams competed in the district track meet last week. Those who placed in the top four in their event will advance to the area track meet in Lago Vista this Wednesday, April 10th. Please congratulate the following athletes who will be advancing to the next level of competition:

There are still high school events in the regular season. Our softball and baseball teams will play against Gatesville this week. On Tuesday, they will play at home, and on Friday, they will play in Gatesville.
This is also the time of year when STAAR testing begins. Our students will begin testing in grades 3 through high school end-of-course exams this week. All tests in all grade levels are now taken online, so we have testing windows to complete the testing for the various subjects. Please reference your student's campus newsletter for additional information and these important dates.
If you missed one of the two town hall meetings presented at Connally Elementary School and would like to schedule a personal meeting and tour of the facilities, please contact the district off to make arrangements by emailing info@connally.org. You can also send any questions concerning the bond or other CISD news and events. As a reminder, early voting for the May election cycle begins on April 22nd and goes through April 30th. Election day is Saturday, May 4th. You can vote at any McLennan County contracted voting location. The bond and the CISD school board election appear on the county ballot according to your permanent residential address.
The next regularly scheduled CISD school board meeting will be on Monday, April 15th, at 6:30 p.m. As a community member, you can address the Board in the public forum at the beginning of the meeting. An informational form must be filled out and turned in to Mrs. Rebekah Els before the start of the meeting to be recognized to speak during the meeting. If you have any questions, please contact the district at info@connally.org.
