Mark Your Calendar:
Friday, March 1st - Wear Blue for W.H.O. World Hearing Day!
We rallied around 4th grader, Cash McGlynn, in wearing blue to help raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hear care across the world!
Cash created a presentation and video that was shared during our assembly Friday. Thank you all for supporting this worthy cause!
Creativity Challenge!
As recipients of the Creativity PRIDE of the month, we put our fourth and fifth graders to the test during the assembly. Students had 8 minutes to create our mascot out of random LEGO. The results were impressive!
A Look At Learning
Grade 4 ELA
Historical Fiction Readers and Realistic Fiction Writers
Grade 5 ELA
Research and note taking in the Argument and Advocacy Unit of Study.
Students in Mrs. Thompson’s class finished up their fantasy book clubs with a “Book in a Box” project. Students found or made 8 objects that represented their books, including items that represented characters, important objects or symbols, themes, and the quests of the characters. Students had the choice if completing a physical book box or a digital version and then shared their completed projects with their book club members!
Students in Mrs. Thompsons class spent some time analyzing poetry this week. Students participated in a “carousel” activity where poems were posted around the room and students worked in groups to identify and explain figurative language, interpret the meaning of poems, and identify themes rotating around the room to each poem.
March Madness at Center School
The bracket is set and we are getting ready to vote for our first round winners! Each book trailer gives an engaging synopsis and often sparks the interest of our young readers. The library has a tough time keeping up with demand for our March Madness book selections that fly off the shelves throughout the month of March!
Stop by during the week of parent conferences to view our display in the gym hallway.
Our Friend Oakley!
Lucky Leprechaun Fitness
In the month of March, students have the opportunity to challenge themselves with daily exercises using the Lucky Leprechaun's March Fitness calendar. Students are invited to mark off each day they complete and record how many days at the end of the month they participated in those exercises. Feel free to modify exercises as necessary. Students who complete the entire calendar and return it with their adult's signature will receive a lucky surprise and a certificate of completion!
If your child would like to participate, I challenge YOU, their adult, to take part in the challenge with them! It's a great chance to discuss as a family why physical activity is important at all stages of life.
Sincerely,
Kat Robinson

Attendance Matters
If a student has four unexcused absences in one month or 10 unexcused absences in a year they are classified as truant. If a child misses 18 or more days in a school year – excused or unexcused absences – the student is classified as chronically absent.
