A total solar eclipse is coming to Henry Middle School (and surrounding areas) in less than 2 Weeks!!! We want to share with you some important information about the plans we have for students to experience this once in a lifetime event on Monday, April 8th while at HMS.
Our Science teachers will be having discussions with students on Friday, April 5th regarding the eclipse and how to safely observe it.
Important Information:
- For safety reasons, visitors will not be allowed on campus on April 8th, the day of the eclipse.
- HMS will be on a modified lunch/bell schedule and all 3 grade level lunches will be completed before 1:00 PM.
- Our wonderful HMS PTA has graciously donated eclipse glasses for all students present at school on August 8th to use during the eclipse so that, weather permitting, students can be outside from 1:00-2:00 PM to experience the eclipse (totality occurs at 1:37 PM).
- Students are encouraged to bring towels or small blankets to school to sit on outside during the eclipse.
- From 1:15-2:00 PM, the main office switchboard will not be manned so that our office staff can also experience the eclipse. We would ask you to schedule appointments either before or after this time. Should an emergency arise where a parent would need to check-out their student from school during the time the students are outside, this can be accomplished, but it will take extra time.
- Leander ISD has created a Total Solar Eclipse Event Website with a wealth of information and resources about the eclipse including what to expect, solar viewing safety, and the science behind this amazing event.
Being present for a total solar eclipse is a once in a life-time event, and we are excited to be able to experience this wonder of our solar system with our students!
