Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Subject Highlights:
Each week will focus on a department within the school and share their nominations with you. This week our PE team will be sharing their nominations with you.
Mrs Horwood has made the following nominations this week:
Year 10 Sports Science student Daniel H who always works hard in lessons and strives to do work to the best of his ability. He is continuously seeking to further develop his coursework and this is reflected in his marks. Hayden L for improvement in the amount of work that Hayden has been putting into his coursework. It is great to see that the work he is putting in is reflected in the marks he is receiving. Orla for her continuous hard work and dedication to her work. Her high level of sporting knowledge has helped her to analyse, evaluate and plan for improvements.Also nominated are Year 8 student Alisha G who demonstrates great employability skills through her 'Heart' element of PE. This has been shown through her determination and resilience in Gymnastics to perform a variety of different group balances, shapes and work on the trampoline. Finally, Year 7 student Katie R for her excellent 'Hand' element of PE shown in gymnastics where she has demonstrated exceptional body control and management through group balances, trampolining and spring board work.
Mrs Feeley has nominated Year 7 students Lois W, Sophie B, Brianna C and Lilly C, Year 8 students Jasmine, Keyshia, Eleanor and Sandy for a fantastic effort in Gymnastics this term. Year 9 students have been problem solving this term and working together to manage risk and work out how to overcome the challenge tasks. Daisy, Lexie, Nicole and Ruby in particular have demonstrated excellent leadership and communication skills. Pictured below are the Year 7 and 8 gymnasts.
Mr Clamp has nominated Year 11 students Alicia, Greta, Penny, Aadi, Jake and Thomas for their hard work in Sports Science. They have produced high-quality work in Principles of Training and Nutrition for Sport and Exercise. Also Trevors who has shown great leadership during Core PE lessons and his ability to control a game of volleyball using a variety of shots has been very impressive.
Mr Arundell-Reid has nominated Year 8 student Myles for always engaging in every activity, displaying excellent determination and leadership skills in Fitness lessons. Well done Myles!
Also nominated is Year 8 student Jason for showing great progress in Tag Rugby Lessons and brilliant answers when questioned and Fabian for his teamwork and leadership skills displayed during OAA lessons. Fabian assists other pupils in his class out of instinct to help the class achieve a common goal. Well done Fabian!
Mr Robinson has nominated Year 10 student Logan who always participates in lessons. He is enthusiastic and puts lots of effort into football games. His strengths are supporting other students in lessons and taking on a leadership role during competitive activities. Also nominated are Year 11 students JoPrince and Ben who show resilience in lessons. They always put in lots of effort and demonstrate interpersonal skills that have a positive impact on whole class participation.
Curriculum Focus:
Each week we will share with you what our students are learning in our focus departments this term, below you will find the topics for KS3 Science along with some questions you can ask your child.
Year 7:
Year 7 have been studying muscles and bones looking at what makes up our body and how joints work to enable movement. They have then looked at the bones role in making blood. They are also looking at circuits and how a circuits works and the different types of circuits.
Questions:
How many bones are in the human body?
What is the function of a tendon?
Name the 2 types of circuit.
Year 8:
Year 8 have been studying pant growth and linking this to how we can maximise the yield from plant products and the multiple uses of plant products. They have also been studying combustion and how fire extinguishers work and then looking at pollution, climate change and what we can do to reduce climate change.
Questions:
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
How can farmers maximise yield form crops?
How can we reduce global warming?
Year 9:
Year 9 have been focusing on some key biological ideas including how cells transport substances in and out of the cell and then how enzymes work. They have been looking at how different sugar solutions can change the mass of potato cylinders and then how pH can affect how effective an enzyme is.
Questions:
What are the 3 ways substances can move in and out of a cell?
How do you calculate percentage change?
Which factors will denature an enzyme?
