Passion Play 2020 - CANCELLED -
CCF Collaboration of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ
Cancellation of Catholic Community of Flint PASSON PLAY 2020
With sad disappointment, per direction from The Diocese of Lansing and recently from Father Tom presentation of The Passion Play this year has been cancelled. While our intentions were to "wait-and-see" it is in everyone's best interest to cancel rehearsals and any performance of this great work prompted by the seriousness of the current COVID-19 Pandemic.
As we have discoverd, The Passion Play staged every ten years since 1634 in Oberammergau, Germany has been entirely cancelled for 2020. This was an unprecedented, but necessary decision by the organization. As the world-renown production uses over 2,000 people on stage for performances and over 4,000 people in the audience each day from May thru October, this was the best decision for them. In Germany, they have rescheduled this year's Passion Play for May 16, 2022!
It is our hope that The Passion Play will be staged for the Catholic Community of Flint in the future. After consultation with Father Tom and others, a new date will be determined for possible production during Holy Week of 2021. Next year Holy Week will be March 28-April 3 with Easter being on April 4, 2021.
For now, please take time to make Holy Week 2020 a prayerful and reflective time. Use this time as many of us are to realize what God is asking us to do to help each other, love each other and enter into a relationship with our God who loves us, forgives us and will always be there for us at any and all times in our lives.

History of the Original Passion Play
IN 1634, the Oberammergau Villagers promised to perform the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ every tenth year, in so far as no one was to die of the plague anymore.
The villagers were answered by God and therefore in 1634, the first passion play took place. The promise has been kept until today. The Passion Play will be presented in Oberammergau May 16-October 4, 2020.
