Friday, April 5 is a professional development day for teachers. There will be no school that day
National Math Club and MATHCOUNTS
National Math Club is a program that gives middle school students the opportunity to engage with math in a non-competitive, social environment. Interested students will also have the option to participate in the MATHCOUNTS, the competition portion of National Math Club, providing students the opportunity to compete in live contests against and alongside their peers. PPCS has just finished the MATHCOUNTS season. After our math team (Oliver, Tanya, Peter, Kevin, and Kiana) won the chapter competition here in Moscow, they went on to represent Latah and Nez Perce counties in Boise at the Idaho State MATHCOUNTS competition. In Boise, competing against the 54 top ranked 6th , 7th , and 8th grade mathletes in the state, our team came in 5th out of 10, with our sole 8th grader (Oliver) coming in at 10th place and competing in the Countdown round, where they identify the top 4 students who will go to Nationals.
With competition season over, it’s time to invite our 5th grade friends to join in on the fun! We meet on Monday mornings from 7:20 to 8:10 in the middle school math classroom. The first meeting will be on Monday, April 1st . All students in grades 5th through 8th are welcome to join. If your child is interested, please follow this link to fill out the google form with your information or just show up for a meeting. Email PPCS parent and Math Club advisor Ellery Blood at Ellery_blood@selinc.com with questions.
Staff Member Spotlight - David Herbold
PPCS is spotlighting Ms. Lichte for the having of wonderful ideas! Ms. Lichte suggested we spotlight staff members in the Quail Call, who may be less well known to parents and guardians. So today we're spotlighting our Adventure Co-Coordinator, David Herbold. David helps coordinate Adventure Fridays with PE teacher, Isaac Ries. He is also the official driver of our Adventure bus, 'The Pickle.'
PPCS: David, what's your favorite thing about PPCS?
DH: Getting to watch how our students support and cheer for each other when they're challenging themselves on Adventure and trying something new!
PPCS: Any other fun facts you'd like to share?
DH: Hmmmm . . . I have lived in Germany, Italy and all the states in the PNW (MT, WA, OR, and ID). I like all the seasons, and never like to miss out on one! I once played a pick-up basketball game with Woody Harrelson. I am still trying to not be afraid of snakes!
MS Swimming
Moscow Middle School will be offering a school swim program this spring. The season will begin on April 8th and end on May 10th, and practices will be MWF from 6:00-7:00pm. If you have any questions, please contact Mitch Running, Activities Director at (208)669-3477.
