RES Weekly Buzz

It was wonderful to welcome the students back to RES this week! Seems like the vacation week was filled with family, friends, adventure, and much-needed relaxation. The kids settled back into their school routines quite nicely, thanks to the structure the teachers put in place at the beginning of the year. We are grateful for that, as it makes transitions like this past week much easier!

As we head into March, we are looking forward to brighter days and warmer temperatures. When you walk outside with the kids, take notice of the buds that will soon begin to show and flowers that will quickly begin to appear. They are so inquisitive and love to be scientists out in nature. Spring is on its way...

Just a reminder, that Tuesday, March 5th is a 1/2 day, noon dismissal.

Attention Parents! Anna Drost, a senior at RHS, is working with Ms. Favazza at the middle school on creating an afterschool STEM Workshop Series for RMS students that will run this winter. We are collecting local career profiles to share with students and hope to include as much of the Rockport community as possible. If any part of your job requires STEM skills, such as tool or technology use, data collection or analysis, or problem-solving and innovation (to name a few!)... please consider completing this form. Please remain diligent about monitoring your child for signs/symptoms of illness, especially if you have recently been traveling. If your child has any COVID symptoms, please test them with an at-home rapid COVID test. Free COVID test kits are available from the Town of Rockport.

Please be aware that there has been an increase in cases of norovirus across the northeast region of the United States. Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and significant stomach pain are the most common symptoms. If your child is experiencing any of these symptoms, they should not come to school.

Per school policy, your child should remain home if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms or illnesses:

· Fever of 100.0 or higher (may return to school once fever-free for 24 hours without use of analgesics)

· Vomiting or Diarrhea (may return to school once symptom-free for 24 hours)

· Positive diagnosis of influenza (may return to school after 5 days as long as no fever/vomiting/diarrhea for at least 24 hours)

· Positive diagnosis of COVID (may return to school after 5 days if symptom-free and must wear a mask)

· Strep throat, conjunctivitis, impetigo or any other contagious illness that requires antibiotic treatment (may return to school after being on antibiotic for at least 24 hours)

· Cold symptoms and respiratory illnesses (students with large amounts of nasal drainage or persistent coughing should remain home until symptoms have improved)

· Any undiagnosed skin condition with open lesions and/or rash (must be seen by pediatrician for diagnosis before returning to school)

  Positive Solutions for Families beginning on Tuesday, March 5th at Pathways for Children, 5:00-6:30 pm for six weeks. This popular, FREE parenting program introduces great strategies for coping with the everyday challenging of parenting a little one. Please help us spread the word and see the flyer for all the details. This is offered by Pathways for Children in collaboration with the Gloucester Preschool and is open to all community families.
