Reading Challenge
Counseling Office
SEL Counseling Groups Session 3 are ending in March but Individual Counseling is available through DMCC, Pacific Clinics, Partners Against Violence and Lutheran Services for Clinicians to meet with students individually once per week, within school hours, per parent consent. SEL Counselor Mr. Hovey can process these referrals efficiently by phone and fax/email the intake and parent consent form to these local agencies to allow for the individual counseling to happen sooner than later.
Suite 360 SEL Lessons are highly recommended for student success to complete as there are 38 weekly lessons per grade level and students can complete them at them at home, though they are allotted Homeroom (1st period) to complete these lessons Monday-Thursday at LCMS with the Laptop Computer Carts. Suite 360 covers developmental and grade level lessons from the CASSEL SEL Framework: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. These lessons are very specific from dealing with peer pressure and vaping to time management and organization skills independently. This is an essential tool to help students make better choices and become successful.
The Counseling Department is also available for student to sign up to see on a confidential and individual basis and/or for conflict mediation by signing up with Mrs. Rodriguez, the counseling secretary, located in the Library, and/or emailing them.
Mr. Hovey- tom.hovey@morongo.k12.ca.us
Mrs. Maclean (8th grade)- michelle.maclean@morongo.k12.ca.us
Mr. Goddard (7th grade)- mike.goddard@morongo.k12.ca.us
We are all doing our best to keep students engaged and free from distractions so they can be focused on making academic progress and grade level promotion to the next grade level.
After School Clubs and Activities
2nd Semester Activities
Second semester activities are in full swing. New additions include the Girls Rule Foundation club with Ms. Whitfield and Readers' Roundtable with Mr. Goddard.
A complete list of clubs and activities is available in the office, as well as a permission slip to attend.
Reminder: Students MUST have a permission slip on file to attend any after school club or activity. When students go to one club, they must stay there (not switch between rooms).
