April marks School Library Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the vital contributions of our school librarians and school library clerks at Greenville County Schools. These skilled and caring professionals are dedicated to fostering a love of literature, nurturing digital literacy skills, and cultivating environments conducive to learning. They teach and assist students each day, building skills and interests that will last a lifetime.
Beyond the management of library materials, our media center personnel serve as mentors and guides, aiding students in their academic pursuits and personal interests and supporting educators in integrating literature and innovative sources into the classroom. In doing so, they play a critical role in the success of our students.
STUDENT APPRECIATION DAY
We are starting to plan and prepare for SAD, Student Appreciation Day which will be held on May 21. This day is a fun-filled action-packed day that requires students to be on their best behavior, therefore students must meet certain behavior expectations to participate.
Students must meet the following criteria to participate in SAD:
- Student has not attended alternative school during the 24-25 school year
- Student has not received any referrals resulting in OSS from March 24-May 20
- Student has not served more than 10 days of OSS during the 24-25 school year
- Student does not owe any textbook/Chromebook/ library fees
Students not participating in SAD will be working in a separate setting with a teacher. They will not participate in any of the activities including signing yearbooks.
Students must have all state testing completed to participate in SAD.
Cell Phones and Smart Watch Policy Update
Due to a legislative action by the South Carolina General Assembly, the South Carolina State Board of Education passed a new cell phone policy for school districts across the state, which goes into effect after Winter Break. School districts must adopt this policy pertaining to personal electronic devices. At their December meeting, the Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees approved an updated policy to comply with the state requirement.
While Greenville County Schools had updated our policy last year and this is not significantly different, we want to make sure you are aware of the most notable updates in order to comply with the state, which includes that student cell phones and personal electronic devices must be stored in backpacks, lockers, or in a location directed by school; this includes smartwatches, earbuds, and all other personal electronic devices and accessories.
Details about the updated policy can be reviewed on the district’s website.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This is a friendly reminder that the last day to purchase an 8th-grade recognition ad for the yearbook is Friday, February 7, 2025.
This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your student’s achievements and milestones with a personalized message and photos. Space is limited, so be sure to secure your spot before the deadline!
