Hello, Riverside Families!

February was much more agreeable than January when it came to the weather. Please remember to send a coat with your child to school, as it can be very chilly in the morning before school and at first recess.

Parent/Teacher Conferences:

Parent/Teacher conferences will be on Monday, March 11 from 8am to 8pm and Tuesday, March 12 from 3:40-6:20pm. Please go to www.myconferencetime/riverside to schedule your conference with your child's teacher.

Due to conferences, there will be no school on Monday, March 11.

Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress:

Students in grades third, fourth, and fifth grade will be taking the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) between April 15 and May 3. These assessments will test their skills in the areas of reading, writing, and math.

Riverside Principal Change:

I wanted to give you all an update on the principal position at Riverside since I will not be returning as the principal next year.

Mr. Mozer, the Director of Elementary Education for the Sioux City Community School District, will be conducting interviews for the new principal on March 7. Staff from Riverside will participate in these interviews. He will then communicate with you who the new principal will be. I plan on helping the new principal in anyway that I can.

ELPA Testing:

We have nearly completed all of our English Language Proficiency Assessments. Our students have worked very hard to level-up on these assessments. Way to go!

There will be a Scholastic Book Fair during conferences. The book fair will be open on Monday, March 11 from 8am-8pm and on Tuesday, March 12 from 3pm-6pm.

Kindergarten, first, and second grade students will have their concert on Thursday, March 14 at 6:00pm.

We hope to see you at Riverside Elementary for this concert.

Wednesday, April 10, will be Kindergarten Registration at Riverside Elementary. Any child that will be five years old by September 15, 2024 is eligible to come to registration. Please stay tuned for more information about this.

Riverside Elementary is collecting Box Tops and Hy-Vee Receipts.We also collect pop-tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. We have a place to collect all of these items in the office.Thank you!

All Iowa public school districts are required to administer an annual school climate and culture survey to students in grades 3-12 called Conditions for Learning Survey. The survey is designed to measure their engagement in school, safety, and the overall learning environment. The survey will be administered to students in April.

Parents and families of students in preschool through grade 12 will also have the opportunity to participate in the Parent Conditions for Learning Survey. The survey contains similar items to those on the student survey, focusing on areas that range from student safety and positive adult and student relationships to school rules and how they are enforced. Participation in the survey is encouraged, but it is completely voluntary, and all questions are optional to answer.

Mark your calendar for spring parent-teacher conferences on Monday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 12.

There will be a two-hour early dismissal on Tuesday, March 26 for spring break and no school from Wednesday, March 27 through Monday, April 1. School will resume on Tuesday, April 2.
