Friday is a teacher workday. Students do not have school.
The Virginia Repertory Theater will be at school on Wednesday to present The Jungle Book .
The Spring MAP Testing window opens next week for 1st - 5th.
March 16-23 is Byrd Spirit Week at 5 Below in Short Pump. Support our school by shopping during this week.
Bagged soil donations would be greatly appreciated as we begin spring planting in our courtyard space!

Chorus Performance at School Board Meeting - Tuesday

Dear Parents of 4th and 5th Grade students,

The BES 4th and 5th grade students have been invited to share a musical selection for the Tuesday, March 12th, School Board meeting.

***Note the change of time from the message sent home! School Board begins at 6:30 PM!

The School Board meeting will begin at 6:30 pm, on March 12th, and will be held in the Goochland Administration building located at 1800 Sandy Hook Road, in room 250. I am asking all students, who can attend to be present at the Administration building by 6:15 pm. We will meet in the main hallway, and once you have arrived and your child has found our group, please feel free to take a seat in room 250. Once the students perform, they will be allowed to leave. All school presentations are scheduled near the beginning of the School Board meetings.

Goochland Preschool Programs

Goochland County Public Schools is accepting applications for preschool for the 2024-2025 school year! Goochland has preschool classrooms at each of its three elementary schools. These preschool programs are full-day programs and transportation to and from school is provided. Our preschool programs at Byrd Elementary School are for three- and four-year-olds. Our preschool programs at Randolph and Goochland Elementary Schools are for four-year-olds. You can apply for preschool using this online application. Notes from the School Nurse

WINTER WELLNESS TIPS:

Eat healthy food, exercise, rest, and wash our hands! Students should not be in school if they have the following:

A fever of 100.4 degrees or greater
Vomiting or diarrhea because of illness
An unknown rash or possible contagious condition
Are unable to focus due to: pain, chronic health condition and acute illness
Flu-like illness (with or without fever) – headache, fatigue, cough, aches, weakness and sore throat
COVID positive result- stay home when sick and return to school when feeling better and 24 hours fever free

Additional Tips

Hand washing with soap and water is a better choice than alcohol based sanitizers when available, especially for stomach related illnesses.
Wash coats and book bags often.

Return to School

A child should be free of symptoms of contagious disease (fever, vomiting, diarrhea, suspicious rash, etc.) for 24 hours without the using of fever reducing medication before returning to school.
Please be prompt when picking up your ill or injured child in order to minimize his or her chance of spreading or acquiring a contagious illness.

YMCA Spring Sports Registration is open NOW! Sign up as soon as possible to secure your spot so you don't miss out on all the YMCA has to offer!

Feed More Food Bus

The Feed More Food Bus will be at the Goochland YMCA once a month on the advertised dates. The Food Bus will provide fruits, vegetables, and other food items for free to children in need.

The bus is only for children ages 6-18.
Children must accompany the parent/adult. Only children are allowed to go onto the bus to shop. Parents/adults will not be allowed on the bus.
The bus does not require any proof of income etc. to shop.

Helpful Links & Info

Please notify the office about transportation changes via email at: beseagles@glnd.k12.va.us.

If you have daily transportation needs, please make sure you provide changes at the beginning of each week for the entire week. This allows staff time to communicate all necessary changes and avoids confusion when a call is not received. We appreciate your support.

Parents who wish to chaperone a field trip or volunteer regularly in our school must submit to a background check every 2 years using the BIB portal. The process is completely electronic. If you are having problems with the system, contact Demetra Harris at dharris@glnd.k12.va.us.
