On Monday, April 8, there will be a rare celestial event, a solar eclipse, which presents a unique learning opportunity for our students. We have received donations of solar eclipse viewing glasses, and we plan to facilitate a safe and educational experience for those who wish to observe the eclipse with proper precautions and supervision.

We understand that some parents may have concerns about their child viewing the solar eclipse due to medical reasons or other factors. We want to respect your preferences regarding your child's participation in this event.

If you would prefer for your child not to participate in the solar eclipse viewing, please fill out the opt-out form that your child brought home and return it to the school office by Monday morning, April 8th. If we do not receive a form, your child will participate in the eclipse viewing with the donated glasses. Alternative educational activities will be provided for students who opt out of the eclipse viewing.

It's time to register for the 2024-2025 school year! Online registration is REQUIRED for ALL new and returning Miller students. Click on the link below to go to the LISD Online Registration Webpage. When registering, be sure to select the 2024-2025 school year! Please make sure to complete all steps (1-10).

***The class in each grade level with the most registrations by May 6th will get a popsicle party!***

STAAR testing begins next week! Students in 3rd-5th grade will take tests on the following days:

• Tuesday, April 9th - 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders will take the Reading STAAR test.
• Tuesday, April 16th - 5th graders will take the Science STAAR test.
• Tuesday, April 23rd - 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders will take the Math STAAR test.

Testing will take place all over the building. Due to the secure testing environment, we will not be able to have visitors in the building on testing days.

If you child will be taking the STAAR test, here are some ways you can help your child be successful on these important tests:

• Cell Phones or Smart Watches, including FitBits, must be taken up before the test begins. Electronic devices will be kept in a secure place, however, it is best if students leave their cell phones at home during testing days. If you need to get a message to your child, please call the office.
• Please avoid scheduling appointments on testing days.
• Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and has a good, hearty breakfast before school. Breakfast will also be provided in the classroom as usual.
• It is very important that all students are present and arrive at school on time on testing days. This will ensure they have time to get settled and begin their test promptly.
• Students should bring a water bottle from home.
• Students will eat sack lunches in their classrooms, and they have all day to complete the test.

Our students have worked hard this year and they are prepared! They are ready to show what they know! Thank you for helping all Miller Owls be successful!
