Amy Belle Elementary
Principal's Corner- Mrs. Kohel
Dear families,
Conferences:
We are looking forward to conferences next week and having families into the building to learn about what their student's have been learning. Your child's teacher has shared with you the format of conferences and how to sign up in our Skyward system. Please make sure you have scheduled your conference by Monday, March 4th. Our student led format is a great opportunity for your child to share what they are learning about and what they have accomplished so far this school year. If your child's teacher reaches out to you to have a one on one conference, please make sure you make the time to meet with them. We want all parents/guardians to be aware of any concerns so that we can do all we can to help students be successful.
Character:
The staff have been hard a work planning this month's character trait work around cooperation! We will be gathering together at the end of the month for Belle Fest to have some fun together and learn how we use courage in our daily lives.
Forward Testing:
When students return from spring break, our 3rd-5th grade students will begin Forward testing. The Forward Test is our statewide assessment that students begin taking in 3rd grade. Your child's teacher will share their specific assessment schedule with you. Students do the assessment in their classrooms on Chromebooks, which minimizes the disruption to their regular school day. Please stay tuned for that information and make sure that your child is well rested, has eaten breakfast and has their snack with them on those testing days.
I want to take this opportunity to express how thankful I am to be able to work with the students, staff and family at Amy Belle. It is a special place because of the wonderful partnership and work we do for the kids.
Sincerely,
Katie Kohel
Counselor's Corner
During classroom Guidance lessons this month, we are focusing on Problem Solving. Students are learning to use the S.T.E.P. Model of Problem Solving. S.T.E.P Stands for:
S = Say the Problem (without blame),
T = Think of Solutions (that are safe and respectful),
E = Explore Consequences (ask What would happen if?)
P = Pick the Best Solution
We encourage students to use this model at school and hope they are applying this model to solving problems at home and in the community as well.
My email address is jrunde@gsdwi.org and my school extension is 1140. You can also visit my website to learn more about the Comprehensive School Counseling program at Amy Belle.
Thanks,
Jen Runde
