Have you applied/reapplied for Free and Reduced Priced Meals?
Free or reduced-price meals are available to students based on household size and income. If income falls below the amount listed below for household size, then students living within the household may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students are automatically eligible for free meals if the family receives assistance under the Food Supplement Program or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits.
Changes and/or status changes occur every year. This year there will be a price category change as of October 11, 2023. Please be sure to apply or reapply in the event your price category is affected by this change.

Attendance
Please note we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann, Dr. Fryson and Mrs. Virgil.

ABSENT NOTE SUBMISSION: Please complete this form within three (3) days once your child returns to instruction. Excused absences cannot be placed into SchoolMax until AFTER the child returns to instruction. Family vacations and trips are not considered excused absences. Refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook for further clarification regarding excused and unexcused absences.

Nurse Ann and the School Health Services strongly recommend wearing a mask and keeping one available in your child's backpack.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)
CMITNES PTO INFORMATION
Upcoming Events
The Double Good Popcorn fundraiser is coming up in March, and CMIT ES PTO is popping with excitement!
Participants will download the Double Good app, and register with our unique Event Code (to be announced). Then you can create and share your scholar's personal pop-up shop with family and friends! Double Good will handle shipping the orders for you!
50% of all proceeds will benefit CMIT ES PTO and there will be great prizes to the top fundraisers!

Kind Kindergarten News!
Hello Kindergarten Families:
Please make sure that your scholar is dressed appropriately for the weather for outdoor recess.
ELA: We will write a story with 4-5 sentences and draw a picture to go with the story. We will compare stories to folktale stories that we know.
Social Studies: In celebration of black history month. we are continuing to learn about black inventors, black heroes, and legends.
Math: We are working on counting using patterns up to 30, and counting to 100 by 1’s and by 10’s.
Science: We are discussing the life cycle of plants, and what they need to survive on a daily basis.

*Friendly reminder: If your scholar is not feeling well, please keep them home. They should not be in school with a fever, a constant runny nose, or a cough that disrupts their ability to focus and concentrate on their lessons.

Fascinating First Grade News!
Hello First Grade Families:
Thank you to all chaperones for an amazing field trip day. The first grade students had a blast!
As the weather continues to change, please be sure to have appropriate outerwear for recess. First grade recess is in the morning, so most days the temperature is still cold.
Please refresh any school supplies your scholar may need in their pencil box, ie: glue, crayons, and pencils. We also suggest checking in with your scholar to see if they need a replacement headphones.

Spectacular Second Grade News!
We are looking forward to our second quarter Honor Roll Assembly. Can you believe it, we are half way through the third quarter! Next week, we will continue Unit 3, theme Our Traditions. In Math, we will start Topic 10, Add Within 1,000 Using Models and Strategies Understand Place Value and count by numbers to 1,000. In Science, we will continue topic 4, Earth's Processes. In Social Studies, we will continue chapter 4, producing and consuming goods. As always, please ensure your scholar reads every night.

Terrific Third Grade News!
This week in Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 5: Citizenship and Civic Engagement.
In Math, scholars are learning about fractions as equal parts of a whole, a set, or a length. They are learning to name fractions as well as locate fractions on a number line. Using number lines will help your scholar enhance their number sense. Number lines will also serve as a basis for future work with fractions to measure length.
This week in Science, scholars are comparing the life cycles of different organisms, and are starting to learn about how traits are inherited.
Fourth Grade
Weekly News!
In Reading, students will compare and contrast two texts and generate questions. In Social Studies, we will begin studying the land and climate of the Southeast Region. In Math, students will add fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 by using equivalent fractions and take topic 12 assessment. In Science, students will demonstrate how high-tech devices use waves to send and receive information
Please check SchoolMax weekly to stay abreast of your scholar's progress in their classes. Grades are updated weekly and this is a great conversation starter with your scholar on what is going well and what needs to be improved to continue to have a successful year.

SCRIPPS Spelling Bee
One of our scholars will be preparing for the regional championship in hopes to compete in the SCRIPPS competition! Make CMIT proud!
5th Grade Content:

Scholars will continue working on Unit 3 Week 4 "Poetry Collection", and will complete their progress check for comprehension.
Math
This week in math we will :
1. Analyze line plots.
2. Explore the volume of rectangular prisms.
Social Studies
SS: Students will be starting Chapter: 6 "A New Nation"
Lesson 1 - Articles of Confederation.
Science
Students are continuing to work in Topic 4 Lesson 3. They should be able to describe how most of Earth's water is in the ocean.

African American History Contest
This project is mandatory for 3rd-5th grade levels, and optional for Kindergarten-2nd grade levels.

Art class will supply an (18x24) sheet of paper for 2-dimensional entries.

K is learning about melodic contours in music.
1st grade is learning about lines and spaces on a music staff.
2nd grade is learning about music dynamics.

K-2 students practiced Meaning of Online: Vocabulary Interactive Practice
In this interactive learning experience, students improve their knowledge of vocabulary terms and definitions related to what it means to be online.

Keyboarding: Upper Row
The learners receive direct instruction and practice with the basic keyboarding techniques needed to type using the upper row keys. The learners gain knowledge about proper finger placement, posture, and are provided a review of the home row keys in this engaging and interactive digital lesson.

This week in P.E., students will participate in a variety of engaging learning activities. Safety rules will continue to be reviewed in order to maintain a safe and fun environment.
