Founders Memorial School News: March 22, 2024
From the Principal
Dear FMS Families,
It’s been such a treat having our families visit FMS this month - both for our BINGO Night and Family Conferences!
We had a wonderful time at BINGO night and appreciate so much of the positive feedback that you have shared with our school team. We are excited to announce that we will be having another family night in May, which will be a Trivia Night.
We are also so happy to have had families visit for conferences. This is an important time to hear about your child’s progress at school. If you have not yet had a chance to meet with your child’s teacher, please be sure to reach out. I want to extend a huge thank you to the Essex Town PTO for providing the amazing meal last night! It was greatly appreciated by our teachers and staff.
This past week, we participated in some learning around Neurodiversity Awareness week. On Tuesday, students wore blue to celebrate Autism Awareness, and on Thursday wore mismatched socks for World Down Syndrome Day. Learning about and understanding disabilities is important to not only our school community, but helps students develop an empathetic approach to all people in their lives. Through this week’s learning, many students realized that possibilities for everyone are limitless.
Have a wonderful weekend - even though we might be battoning down in tomorrow’s storm!
Sincerely,
Sara Jablonski
FMS Principal
FMS Read-A-Thon
The FMS Read-A-Thon is back! In partnership with the PTO, we are hosting an all school Read-A-Thon starting on 4/1/2024! We have set an ambitious goal of reading a collective total of 200,000 minutes! Students will record their books on paper Reading Log and will track minutes read in school and at home. Click the link below for more details and look for tracking forms to go home on 4/1!
Happy Reading,

Student Council Updates
Our FMS Student Council groups have been busy! Our 3rd grade group of leaders is planning a schoolwide cleanup day for early May. Our 4th grade team has been busy planning a lunchtime talent show, and the 5th grade group is working on a video to demonstrate the importance of positive behaviors during less structured times, like when taking a water or bathroom break. These groups do a wonderful job of collecting feedback from their classmates and having thoughtful discussions around change when we meet!
Solar Eclipse
As you know, there is no school on April 8th. Students across the building have been talking about the science behind the upcoming solar eclipse. We will talk about this at our next school wide meeting on 4/5 and have a special guest sharing science knowledge with us!
On Friday, 4/5, students will bring home FOUR pairs of eclipse glasses, so families can view this remarkable experience together.
