Many of our students bring microwave foods to school in their lunch bags on a daily basis. Microwave foods are convenient for busy families and microwave ovens are thought to be โsaferโ than conventional ovens and stoves. However, they heat foods and liquids to very high temperatures, resulting in burns from spills, splashes and release of steam. Microwave ovens are involved in a large number of scalding incidents. Due to hazards found in a school cafeteria environment, and the inability of the teachers on supervision duty to assist every student with their microwave lunch we can no longer permit microwave foods that require boiled water such as noodles and Kraft Dinner at school. If students wish to enjoy these foods during school hours, we kindly ask that they be stored in a thermos. Thermos containers provide a safe alternative for storing and transporting hot foods and liquids without the risks associated with microwave heating.
We wanted to take a moment to inform you of an important update regarding the use of the SchoolMessenger App for reporting your child's attendance.
As you may know, the SchoolMessenger App has been a convenient tool for parents to report their child's absences, whether they are full day or half day. However, NLSchools have recently made some changes to the app's functionality.
Moving forward, families will no longer be able to report half day absences through the SchoolMessenger App. Instead, when your child is absent, please enter the absence for the full day within the app. It's important to note that if your child attends school for part of the day and then signs in at the main office upon arrival, the attendance record will be adjusted to reflect the half day absence.

Effective immediately, there has been a slight adjustment to meal prices. The cost for a regular meal at the cafeteria will now be $6.00. Additionally, on pizza days, ordering an extra slice of pizza will be priced at $3.00. This adjustment aims to ensure that the First Venture Cafeteria continues to provide nutritious and quality meals for our students while also accommodating the necessary operational costs.

Please be aware that students at SHA are not permitted to bring Energy Drinks such as Red Bull, Rock Star, PRIME and Monster etc to school.
Energy drinks are not recommended for children because of their high levels of caffeine, and other ingredients. In some cases, one energy drink could have more caffeine than the safe daily intake. Children are at increased risk of experiencing behavioral effects from consuming caffeine. Health Canada has received a number of reports of suspected health problems associated with energy drinks. Symptoms have included irregular heartbeat and nervousness.

As we move through the school year, we want to ensure that all aspects of your child's education are running smoothly. One crucial component of this is transportation, especially for those who rely on the NLSchools bus service to get to and from school safely.
We understand that life can sometimes bring changes, including changes to your physical address. However, it's essential that you notify the school whenever such a change occurs. Why? Because our school bus routes are assigned based on students' physical addresses. This means that any change in address could potentially affect your child's bus route and schedule.
When you report an address change to the school, please keep in mind that it will take approximately 24 hours for your child to be assigned to a new bus route. This timeframe allows NLSchools to update their records and ensure that your child's transportation arrangements are accurately reflected.
It's also important to note that NLSchools utilizes a sophisticated system to manage bus route assignments. Our school PowerSchool database synchronizes with the NLSchools School Bus Planner database nightly. This means that any changes you report will be updated promptly, ensuring that your child's transportation information remains current.
We recognize the importance of efficient and reliable transportation for our students. By promptly informing us of any address changes, you help us maintain the smooth operation of our transportation services.
