How to Know When Your Child is Ready for a Device or Phone
On April 8th, our PTA hosted a wonderful presentation by RCS Assistant Superintendent Jean Winkler on device readiness for our students.
AT&T Screen Ready: Here is one of the excellent tools we used to help you and your child decide when they are ready for a phone: https://screenready.att.com/digital-parenting/#phoneready-questionnaire
Common Sense Media: For those not familiar, this website was also shared at our recent presentation on device readiness for kids. This is an excellent website to help you determine if a video game, app, TV show, movie or even a book is age-appropriate for your child: https://www.commonsensemedia.org
School Budget
2024-2025 School Budget
On Tuesday, May 21, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District residents will vote on a proposed $54,578,339 budget for the 2024-25 school year. The RCS Board of Education adopted the proposed budget after dedicating the last few months to review programs, consider future opportunities, and finalize priorities for the coming school year. The proposed plan includes a spending increase of $1,032,433 or 1.92% and would result in an estimated tax rate increase of 4.26%. This estimated tax increase is below the district’s tax cap of 4.45% and requires only a simple majority for the budget to be approved (50% plus one vote).
Upcoming Dates:
Wednesday, May 8 - The Annual Budget Hearing and Meet the Candidates will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the RCS High School.
Tuesday, May 21 - The Annual School District Vote will be held from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the RCS High School.
A budget newsletter with details about the upcoming proposed budget will be available shortly to the residents of the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District. To access budget presentations and view the proposed budget, please visit our website's 2024-25 Budget Development webpage or click here.

General Reminders
Parent Pickup
As a reminder, students MUST be signed out if you are picking them up from school. This includes at the end of the school day. Often the line is long and we appreciate your patience as our staff checks ID's to provide you with a purple pass. Once your child is with you, please turn the pass in so we know your child has been properly and safely signed out.
We appreciate your cooperation to ensure student safety!
Tick Season
Any time students are outdoors, we encourage them to do a "tick check" as a precaution. If any ticks are found on a student, they are sent to the health office. We encourage you to check your child at home on a regular basis (whether on a school day or not).
Stay healthy- stay safe!
May Focus: Be Responsible
During April, our school focus was "Be Safe" with a refresher of our school rules by some of our 5th grade students. For May, we will be shifting to "Be Responsible". With spring in full gear, it is that time of the year when being a responsible student is an attribute that our staff is always working to improve for success in all areas.
Thank you for all you do to teach your child to be responsible!
Spring Drills
We have a few more drills (fire and lockdown) to complete before the school year ends. These will be taking place over the next few weeks of school. You will be notified after the completion of all lockdown drills.
