Principal's Message
Happy Monday Phelan Parents-
I hope everyone had a fantastic Easter Break!
We have another 4-day week ahead of us AND this week begins STAAR camps for grades 3rd-5th. STAAR camps are engaging, learning environments where we focus on learning standards that are rigorous for students. We collect data throughout the week to develop activities to reinforce learning and then reteach, through differing teaching strategies.
We have a KINGDOM COLOR OUT this Friday, April 5, 2024. We encourage ALL students to dress decked out in their Kingdom Colors for a day of academic battling! Students who choose not to participate MUST follow the Phelan Dress Code.
Stay UP TO DATE!

Nurse's Notes
If you have not submitted your immunization records, please complete yours as soon as possible. Also, as a reminder, students must be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school (including fevers).
Recent Parking Updates
Cars are not allowed to park on the side of Phelan. Parents parking on the side of Phelan, or in areas marked, "No parking," are violating school rules, placing students in danger, violating traffic laws, and creating traffic issues for those following the rules. Please use the drop off line, have your student ready to exit the vehicle. If your student needs a little extra time, please pull through the line to Cone "0."
Regular Morning Drop Off
Phelan students will exit the vehicle independently in the morning car rider line.
If you are dropping your student off in the front, please follow Phelan parking lot drop off procedures:
- Pull ALL the way up to the nearest cone (Phelan Parking Lot Assistants will guide as needed)
- Your student should be on the right hand side of the vehicle. This is done to maintain a consistent flow in the drop off line.
- Once the car has stopped, all 6 students will exit their vehicle.
- Phelan Knights will have duty stations throughout the main corridor to assist your student as needed.
- Please do not cut, speed, or block any driveway areas or roads.
- Please keep your music at a volume that does not impede communication between Phelan parking lot attendants, drivers, and/or students.
Parents ARE NOT permitted to park in the Phelan parking lot and/or to walk their student to the front of the school.
- All traffic violations and aggressive or unsafe driving will be reported to Officer Armstrong, the Phelan Police officer.
Regular Pick-up
Parents will pull up at to the cones in front of the school in the afternoon; there are 6 cones. Please have your family number displayed in the front window of your vehicle (hanging from the mirror). A Phelan parking lot monitor will be walking and calling numbers back to the front office who is communicating with each grade level. Your students will be ready for pick up when you pull to the cone. We will load students at the same time. A parking lot monitor will release vehicles once all safety protocols are met. The student loaded cars pull out and the next set of vehicles move in.
Put your student's name in their clothes to help keep it easily identifiable. Please contact us when your first notice the item missing. This become more prevalent during the winter season as coats are not normal Texas attire.
We donate all Lost and Found items at the end of each semester.
Smart Tags
Smart Tags is a campus and district requirement. It is a safety measure and part of the Phelan Dress Code. Please note that Smart Tags shall be strictly enforced. Your student will use their ID Badge to purchase lunch/breakfast, ride the bus, and library book check-out. Bus routing information will only be available in Smart Tag Parent Portal. The Smart Tag Parent Portal will show updated bus route information.
The Smart Tag Parent Portal link can be found HERE or the Blue Button Quick Link below.
Parents please go into the Smart Tag Portal and make sure you are registered. Again, bus routing information is for all bus routes, numbers, times, etc. Please be sure you have checked your bus stop times, drop off, downloaded the app, etc.
School Safety and Security
This year, to increase our safety measures, students and staff are required to wear their district issued ID on their upper torso AT ALL TIMES. There are no exceptions to this rule. Students who arrive without their ID will be required to call their parent to resolve the safety ID issue. Please note that a Phelan student will not be allowed to enter the classroom without their badge.
Student badges will serve as the student ID and SmartTag all in one card. An added safety card contains Lamar CISD's Standard Response Protocol, important emergency numbers, as well as a QR code that links directly to the District's anonymous tip line.
Any individual who is on campus without a visible badge or temp sticker from the front office WILL be escorted back to the front of the building for a tag. A repeated violation will result in campus removal.

- Dreambox Math took the campus by storm last year. Students talked about it in the halls, challenged each other in the classrooms, and were caught working on the program at home. This is what Phelan loves...the challenge to be better, so Phelan decided to purchase the Dreambox English to accompany the Dreambox Math. This year, Phelan's homework challenge is for students to READ OR Dreambox English for 20 minutes AND Dreambox Math for 20 mins.
