Library News
Hello Dragons!
We just finished reading the last two books in our California Young Readers Medal of 2024. Last week we read Chez Bob (clue was a red bird) written and illustrated by Bob Shea. This story is about a lazy alligator that wants to eat a bird. He decides to open “Chez Bob”, a bird restaurant, on his nose so he can eat birds. He figures he can sell his business idea to other lazy alligators and become rich and famous. His restaurant becomes very popular, the birds build a town around his amazing restaurant. As Chez Bob becomes the popular place to go, he also gets very involved participating with many town events in his plan to eat the birds. Eventually when a storm comes, all the birds fly into his mouth for safety but Bob decides NOT to eat his bird friends after all. In the end they surprise Bob with an alligator size nest so they can spend all of their time together. Our final story was The Littlest Yak (clue was a beanie) written by Lu Frasier and illustrated by Kate Hindley. This sweet story was about a little Yak named Gerdie that couldn’t wait to be big like the rest of the Yaks in her group. Poor Gerdie tries everything to grow but nothing works. Then one day Gerdie’s mom and the other Yaks come to find her to help save another Yak that is stuck on a mountainside. The other Yaks are too big to get to it but Gerdie is small enough and grippy enough to help. In the end Gerdie realizes that with her being small, she can still do big things! Well, that was all five stories in the last five weeks. When we come back next week, we will vote for our favorite book. This will be an exciting week, I can’t wait to see which book will win for Sierra and then for California. Remember, good things happen when you read!

READ-A-THON
Sierra School Parents Club has decided to hold a Read-a-thon this year!
Read-a-thons get your reader excited about reading and it gives friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more.
Our Read-a-thon starts Friday March 1, 2024.
Today your child should have come home with a flyer with their class specific code to activate their personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record their progress. Please be sure to create an account so their teacher can log in class minutes.
We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/323739333036/1 and following the simple instructions.
We've chosen Read-a-thon because it will not take much of your time, gives your child a reason to read and helps in the development of stronger reading skills.
We hope EVERYONE participates.
Thanks so much,
TEAM Sierra
