Week of April 12, 2024
From the Principal
The week flew by with a whirlwind of activity. I hope you caught a glimpse of Monday's eclipse. If you were lucky to witness totality, that's fantastic! Some of our teachers were blessed to experience it and have kindly shared their photos below.
One goal this week was the completion of the iReady Diagnostic for students. This assessment provides valuable insights into their progress since the beginning of the year and areas where they still have room to grow. Keep an eye out for your child's results, and when you review them, take a moment to celebrate their hard work and growth!
Looking ahead, ILEARN testing is on the horizon starting next week. These state-mandated assessments are crucial for our students, and it's essential that they have the best possible chance of success. You'll find some tips on how to support your child before testing begins. If a student happens to miss any testing due to absence, they'll have to make up the missed segments promptly upon their return. To help alleviate any anxiety, it's best for students to be present and on time, testing alongside their classmates.
While testing is a significant focus, it's important to remember that there's still plenty of learning to do before the year's end, along with some exciting events planned! Let's continue to encourage our children to stay dedicated and work hard in all aspects of their school journey.

Supporting Your Child Before State Testing: Home Strategies for Success
State testing can be a stressful time for both children and families. Here are some strategies you can use at home to help your child feel prepared and confident on testing day:
Creating a Supportive Environment:
- Positive Attitude: Maintain a positive and encouraging attitude towards the test. Convey confidence in your child's abilities and avoid placing undue pressure on them.
- Sleep and Nutrition: Ensure your child gets a good night's sleep before the test and eats a healthy breakfast on the morning of the test. Both are essential for optimal cognitive function.
- Minimize Stress: Create a calm and organized environment in the days leading up to the test. Limit distractions like screen time and prioritize relaxation activities like reading or spending time outdoors.
Test Day Logistics:
- Plan Ahead: Lay out clothes, supplies (pencils, eraser, calculator), and any necessary paperwork the night before. This avoids last-minute scrambling and reduces morning stress.
- Be on Time: Allow ample time for travel and getting settled in at the testing location. Arriving early helps ease anxiety and ensures your child doesn't miss any critical instructions.
Remember:
- The goal is to support your child's well-being and encourage their natural ability to succeed.
- Focus on the process of learning and development, not just the test score.
- Open communication and positive reinforcement are key to helping your child feel confident and prepared on testing day.
ILEARN Testing Schedule
If you are making appoinments for your child, please be sure they do not conflict with their ILEARN testing time. Students will not be permitted to enter or leave once a testing session has started.

From the Nurse
Attention 5th grade Parents
Fifth grade students will need to have Tdap & meningitis immunizations going into 6th grade, if they have not already done so. Please start scheduling appointments now. If you have questions, please contact your child's doctor or the school nurse.
Attendance (765) 689-9131
Parents or guardians must call the school attendance line when their child is absent. Call 765-689-9131 and wait to hear Maconaquah Elementary School and then attendance. Contacting the teacher is not the same as reporting it to the attendance line in the front office. When you call the attendance line to report a student's absence, please include why the child is absent, or it will be marked as unexcused. If a child is absent for a medical appointment, it is necessary to bring a doctor's note for the absence to be excused.

Braves of the Week
Qorlana Walker
Qorlana is a super creative and intelligent student! She enjoys school and creating pieces of art. Lana has had some big challenges to face this school year, but she has met those challenges and shown a lot of grit and perseverance. She comes to school ready to work hard and has shown amazing growth. I am so proud of Lana and can't wait to see what she decides to do in the future!
Addy Bradshaw
Addy is such a sweet and kind student. She participates in class activities by doing her best and asking great questions. Addy helps others with a generous and unselfish heart. One thing I have noticed is that she takes the time to say nice things to others with a smile, a compliment, or an encouraging word. She is responsible and truly seems to enjoy learning. Congratulations, Addy! Keep being amazing!
Ella Benefiel
Ella works hard in class every day. She is always trying to improve her skills and learn new things. Ella is a friend to everyone and always has a smile on her face. She is a wonderful asset to our class.
Zofia Iliff
Zofia Illiff is our Brave of the Week for so many reasons. She always comes to school with a smile on her face and makes everyone around her happy. If you walk into our classroom, you will find her dancing or singing as she learns. I have loved watching Zofia grow this school year in every subject. She has grown to love reading, and her passion for reading has shown through her benchmarks and diagnostic tests. Zofia deserves this award, and we are so proud of her.
