TEA Summer Social Studies Engagement Sessions
June Office Hours
No CPE credit will be issued for these sessions, but anyone with questions about social studies for TEA staff can join in a come and go capacity.

July Topic: Clarifying the Social Studies TEKS Crosswalks for 2024-2025
The social studies team at TEA is committed to enhancing opportunities for stakeholder engagement across the state of Texas. Social Studies Stakeholder Engagement Sessions allow the TEA social studies team to expand information sharing and interaction with stakeholders. Each session will have a different informational focus and will include a fifteen-to-twenty-minute presentation from TEA staff, followed by an opportunity for general questions and discussion related to social studies. Three stakeholder engagement sessions are scheduled, one provided for each grade band (K-5, 6-8, 9-12).

You are only required to attend one session for 1 hour of CPE credit. You may attend more than one session, but only 1 hour of CPE credit will be issued.
State-wide Social Studies Professional Learning
Summer 2024
The Law-Related Education (LRE) Department of the State Bar of Texas serves as a catalyst to advance law-related and civic education programs throughout the state. They offer both in-person and virtual professional development opportunities. Dates, locations, and registration information for these free events can be found on their website.
This summer 2024, Humanities Texas will hold in-person and online programs for classroom teachers covering topics in U.S. history, government, Texas history, and English language arts. The institutes are free to teachers and their schools. In-person participants may receive a stipend as well as continuing professional education (CPE) credit and a wealth of curricular materials. Teachers travelling to an institute will be reimbursed for approved travel costs up to $300.
This summer’s topics will be:
• The Cold War: History, Literature, and Culture
• Teaching the Literatures of Texas
• Teaching Evidence-Based Reading Practices at the Secondary Level
• The New Nation: America, 1800–1860

Texas History Professional Development Conference June 24-25, 2024
Join the Dallas Historical Society for this free, two-day Professional Development Conference, presented in partnership with the Harry W. Bass Jr. Foundation. Learn from leading Texas historians and exemplary classroom instructors. Improve your content knowledge and sharpen your teaching skills at the beautiful and historic Hall of State. Foundation for Teaching Economics Summer Training July 15-20, 2024
The week-long EFT program encompasses 50+ hours of instruction, providing teachers with lesson plans, economics content instruction, networking opportunities, and a diverse learning format. Lectures and activities are led by expert economics professors and skilled mentor teachers selected nationwide for their expertise. Both new and experienced teachers will benefit from this program.

Sphere Summit July 2024
Sphere Summit, a full‐scholarship professional development program for grades 5–12 educators, returns as a fully in‐person experience in Washington, DC, and will run July 14–18 and July 28–August 1. Benefits include room and board, 20+ hours of professional development, classroom resources, and a $500 travel stipend upon completion of the program.
5th-12th grade educators across all disciplines and subject areas are eligible to apply. Each Summit will offer distinct programming to meet the needs of both middle and high school educators as well as educators teaching either on grade level or advanced courses like AP or IB. Please apply to the Summit that works best for your schedule.

Student Summer Camp Opportunity
This summer, students can embark on a historic journey through time with Youth Summer Camps at the Texas Historical Commission’s state historic sites Youth Summer Camps at the Texas Historical Commission’s state historic sites. Immerse your young historians in a unique blend of education and adventure, where the past comes to life.
The camps offer hands-on experience, allowing campers to step back in time and discover the rich heritage of Texas. Each historic site becomes a classroom, fostering a deep appreciation for our state's unique history.
