Hometown Family Buzz

We are looking forward to celebrating our Veterans on Thursday morning. Please enter door 19 to go to the gym. Our students have been practicing their little songs and letters. Any family member that has a student singing, reading a letter or poem or participating in anyway can attend. Breakfast will immediately follow in the MPR room.

Just a reminder that cheesecake pick will be November 9th starting at 2:30pm. The cheesecakes will be in the MPR room. Please enter door 10 which is in the back of the building.

Please join us for our talent show on November 15th. We will start in the gym at 6pm. Please enter door 19.

Just a reminder there will be no school the week of November 20-24 for the Thanksgiving holiday. School will resume Monday, November 27th.

The attached flyer is to raise money for PTA. Show the flyer on November 16th.

We are looking for our students to create Veterans Day card for our military. If your family would like to create or write cards, please send them to office by November 9th. We will be sending them to our service men and women. I will be giving Stingers to those who hand them in.

If you are able to donate any of the supplies listed below, please bring them to school by November 10th. We will be donating any canned goods or items on the list to our troops.

We are looking for any last parent volunteers to run stations for our end of the trimester behavior celebration. Our grades will rotate through different stations the afternoon of November 17th. If you have not already filled out the form or registered on Signup Genius, please email Dr. Bencik.

Early this fall, Hometown's nurse, Mrs. Shelila Baker, applied for a grant through Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation and Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation. In 2020, these two companies partnered to launch "H20 On the Go." This shared initiative was developed in order to help improve the overall health and well-being of Illinois children. This program allows students in Illinois the opportunity to access a water filling station in their buildings. The program replaces existing water fountains with new water bottle-filling stations supplied by Elkay, a company based in Downers Grove.

According to the H20 on the Go foundation, this program promotes "easier access to drinking water for Illinois students while at school and helps encourage them to choose water instead of sugary beverages such as soda, juice, and sports drinks." These refillable water stations help reduce the waste of plastic water bottles in schools. Each student also received a toothbrush and reusable water bottles as a gift.

Since 2022, nearly 300 Illinois schools have received new water bottle filling stations. Thank you Mrs. Baker for helping us receive new and improved water fountain.
