PBIS Theme: Courage to Try New Things
As we continue our journey towards fostering a positive and supportive school environment through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), we are excited to introduce our latest theme: "Courage to Try New Things."
At PES, we believe that growth and development flourish when individuals step out of their comfort zones and embrace new experiences. We are committed to instilling in our students the confidence and resilience needed to navigate the ever-changing world around them. With this in mind, we invite you to join us in encouraging your child to explore new opportunities and take risks in their learning journey.
Why is it important for your child to embrace the courage to try new things? Here are a few key reasons:
Personal Growth: Trying new things allows your child to discover their strengths, interests, and passions. It opens doors to new experiences and opportunities for personal growth and development.
Resilience: Stepping outside of one's comfort zone teaches resilience and adaptability. It empowers your child to face challenges with confidence and persevere in the face of setbacks.
Expanded Horizons: By trying new things, your child can broaden their horizons and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. Whether it's exploring a new hobby, joining a club, or participating in a school event, each new experience enriches their perspective and enhances their learning journey.
As partners in your child's education, we encourage you to support and empower them as they embrace the courage to try new things. Here are a few ways you can help:
Encourage Exploration: Foster a sense of curiosity and exploration in your child by exposing them to new experiences outside of school, whether it's trying a new sport, visiting a museum, or learning a new skill.
Celebrate Effort: Celebrate your child's efforts and willingness to try new things, regardless of the outcome. Recognize their courage and perseverance, and praise them for stepping out of their comfort zone.
Lead by Example: Be a role model for your child by demonstrating your own willingness to try new things and take on challenges. Share your experiences and encourage open communication about stepping outside of one's comfort zone.
Together, we can empower our students to embrace the courage to try new things and embark on a journey of growth and discovery. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in creating a positive and enriching learning environment for our students.
Random Acts of Kindness Club
On March 11th, the boys and girls in our Random Acts of Kindness Club made 78 dog toys and 30 cat toys for the Friends Forever Humane Society.
Matt Wilhelm visits PES
On March 14, National BMX champion came to Pecatonica Elementary to talk to students about his passion to become a champion BMX rider and what it took to get to where he is today. He talked to students about bullying, perseverance, and hard work all while dazzling them with tricks on his bike. During this interactive presentation students were chosen to receive a signed poster and try new bike tricks. Mr. Wilhelm even jumped his bike over PES staff members including Mrs. Lalowski, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Johnston, and Ms. Hansen.

2nd Grade Concert
PES 2nd Grade students held their annual concert on Wednesday, March 13. Led by Mr. Southerland, students were "heating up" the PHS commons with their beach theme songs and Hawaiian shirts. They made us all wish for more warm weather and sunshine.
St. Patrick's Day
Mrs. Sneek's early childhood/pre-kindergarten classes had some St. Patty's Day fun! A tricky little leprechaun visited the classroom on March 15. Unfortunately, the classes didn't catch him in our traps, but they did have fun seeing all of the tricks he played after school.
Book Fair/Art Show
The annual PES Book Fair will be held April 22-26. Family night for the book fair will be on April 25 and the fair will be open until 8 pm. Click HERE for the online link.

Seen Around School
Here are some of the cool things happening around the building in the past month:
Mr. Humphry transformed the 4th grade hallway into a walkthrough aquarium complete with fish and orcas!
Fourth grade teachers decorated their doors using the "March Madness" theme. This example is from Ms. Brown's classroom.
Mrs. Hoffman's 2nd grade room was rainbowed with many little leprechauns and their pot of gold!
Kindergarten students in Miss Benney's class recently studied the planets and even painted their own solar system. They shared their creation by decorating the cafeteria bulletin board for all students to enjoy.
Kindergartners Kinley Glick and Tatum Belknap entertain each other during lunch by calling each other on their "banana phones."
Mrs. Wanke's 1st grade class contributed some artwork and an inspirational quote to decorate the wall outside of the main office.
