I hope this message finds you well as we prepare to welcome another exciting week at John F. Kennedy High School. As we continue to navigate the journey of education and growth together, it is essential to pause and reflect on the spirit that makes our community truly unique - our respect, resilience, intelligence, and courage.

This week, we are thrilled to celebrate Irish Week with our much-anticipated Irish Assembly. It's a time for us to honor and embody the spirit of being a Fighting Irish at Kennedy. This identity is not just a title; it's a testament to our collective character. We are a community that is proud of our achievements, grateful for our successes, and unwavering in the face of adversity. Our Irish spirit teaches us not to give up or quit but to fight through challenges with toughness and respect.

Dear AUHSD Community,

We invite you to join us as we start a new Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) season! At AUHSD, we are dedicated to fostering meaningful collaboration with all of our educational partners during the LCAP development.

The LCAP process is shifting towards smaller focus groups. You may provide your input in:

#1 - basic services

#2 - state standards, pupil achievement, course access, other pupil outcomes
#3 - parental involvement
#4 - pupil engagement, school climate

What does LCAP mean for us? It's our district's three-year plan aligning LCFF funding to AUHSD’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values, while ensuring it supports the needs of our district. This thorough process provides us with comprehensive insights into how education can best support our students and the school community.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, March 21. You may still attend these meetings if you missed the initial one.

Parking Lot

Kennedy High School began a two-phase Solar Panel Project in the South (Student) Parking Lot. A portion of the South Parking Lot will be closed for 6-8 months. Therefore, student parking will be limited.

It is recommended that students are dropped off at school or carpool with other students. Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Parking permits are to be displayed at all times when parked in the Kennedy Student parking lot. Please see Mrs. Alvarez in the Student window if you are in need of a parking pass. You can find the application and fees HERE.

Are you an English learner? Are you interested in helping out your student's English learning process and being a part of a committee? Please join us for our ELAC committee meeting where you can have input for your student! We will be meeting this Tuesday, March 12th from 9:15am-10:30am in Walker's Parent Center (Room B2). Hello Irish Seniors! Consider sponsoring your student through an optional popcorn fundraiser to completely pay their grad nite ticket. This opportunity begins March 15th and ends on March 19th. You can pre-register using the code above.

Course Overview: This course is designed to equip parents and caregivers with practical skills to reinforce positive behavior expectations both at home and in school. Following the Love and Logic® approach, our instructors will guide you through six subsets of skills in a 6-week course, aimed at creating nurturing home environments, promoting responsibility, preventing misbehavior, and establishing healthy limits.

• Course session dates (6 weeks): 02/06/24, 02/13/24, 02/20/24, 02/27/24, 03/05/24, and 03/12/24

Any families who made under 64,000 a year in 2023 qualify for free Tax Preparation done by OC Tax Prep. They offer their services in English, Spanish, and Korean. Please take a look at the flyer below for their locations, what to bring, and the numbers to call to schedule an appointment. Consider making an appointment early before all their spaces fill up.

Friendly reminder

If planning on signing out a student, please send an email to kenattendance@auhsd.us with sufficient time in advance to prepare. This will not only facilitate the process for parents and students much quicker, but also minimize classroom disruptions. Thank you.

Students are expected to follow our dress code every day. Students may not wear pajama pants. Students wearing pajama pants will be asked to change into PE loaner shorts, or have a parent bring them a change of clothes. Thank you.

We will be starting the 2nd Semester of the school year!

If not used for instruction purposes, cell phone devices and their accessories can take away valuable time from instruction, affect students’ mental health and safety, can be disruptive and not conducive to learning, and can create disciplinary problems. Cell phones and accessories are to be put away and/or placed in the cell phone pocket organizer in all classes during instructional time.

CELL PHONE & ELECTRONIC DEVICE POLICY

Students who bring cell phones, tablets, and/or accessories to school, do so at their own risk. Cell phones and accessories are among the most stolen, lost, and broken items belonging to students. We discourage students from bringing unnecessary electronic devices to school. Kennedy High School assumes no responsibility for the safety or security of these items. Kennedy personnel will NOT investigate the theft of these items. The Anaheim Union High School District will NOT reimburse for any lost, stolen, or damaged electronic devices even if they are confiscated.

Electronic Device Use

Students may use their electronic devices and accessories before school, at lunch, and after school. In the classroom, cell phones, tablets, and accessories may be used for academic purposes with the explicit permission of a Kennedy teacher. Once the bell rings all electronic devices must be turned off and out of sight during academic time. This involves all students placing their cell phones in the cell phone pocket organizers that will be hanging in each class. Students should not take cell phones to the restroom, office, or out of the classroom during instructional time.

Receiving permission one time does not give future permission. Students must be given direct permission each class period everyday.

Consequences

If the student has any cell phone or electronic device out or turned on during the restricted time, the following rules apply:

• The cell phone/electronic device will be confiscated from the student.

• Confiscated cell phones, tablets, and/or accessories will be placed in an envelope with the student’s name and stored in the Main Office until the parent/guardian takes possession.

• Repeat offenders will face disciplinary consequences.

Parents/Guardians and families, please make sure your child brings their Chromebooks or personal computing devices to school everyday, fully charged and ready to be used. It is very important to do this as your child may be using these devices for various courses at our school. Please remind them every night to charge their devices and pack it in their backpacks for the morning. We very much appreciate your help in building these positive habits as they go about this new school year.

Youth Ride Free passes for the 2023-24 school year are available in the attendance office.
