Week of 3-11-2024
Message from Principal Blagg
Hello Parker Families,
We made it through the rain (literally) and finished off a great week with a beautiful day. The students continue to work hard and learn from one another. There is a great sense of community in the school that is infectious! There was a great sense of excitement in the building as the Drama Club, under the direction of Ms. Robertson, will be putting on Annie tonight and tomorrow. At this point a Taylor Swift ticket may be easier to get! We wish the cast and crew the best of luck. We are so proud of them all!
We have another big week ahead of us:
Tuesday March 12 - John Morello and "DIrt"
We are excited to be heading over to the CHS Performing Arts Center Tuesday morning to view this special one man show. This show focuses on mental health, self-esteem, and the decisions kids are faced with every day. He is a dynamic, funny, and poignant performer who speaks to the issues facing our kids as they navigate coming of age. All Parker students will be walking over to the CHS PAC for a performance on March 12 starting at 8:30 am. Permission slips were sent home with students in order to leave campus. Please have them turned in by Monday. Tuesday night at the CHS Performing Arts Center Mr. Morello will be putting on his full "Dirt" production for parents in our community. If you choose, you are more than welcome to bring your child to view this performance as well. The performance starts at 6:30 pm and will be finished by 8 pm. This is a powerful performance that could serve as an entry point into discussing the many issues adolescents face today. The Parker and McCarthy PTO has graciously sponsored this worthy performance, so admission is free to all who attend. We sincerely hope to see you there at 6:30 pm on Tuesday March 12! More information about John Morello and his performance can be found below.
Wednesday March 13 - Second Step - Our Social Emotional Learning Curriculum
We will be continuing our SEL units this week with grade 5 focusing on Problem Solving and Grade 6 focusing on Relations and Social Conflict. Please see below for the lesson recap and a conversation starter to discuss with your child.
Grade 5: Let’s Reflect
Summary
In this lesson, your child will reflect on whether a solution to an interpersonal problem worked for everyone involved.
Try This at Home
Ask your child how they can know when they’ve found a good solution to an interpersonal problem.
Grade 6: Considering Multiple Perspectives
Summary
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how to view situations from multiple perspectives so they can better avoid and resolve conflicts.
Question
Tell your child about a time when your view of a conflict changed because you were able to see it from another person’s perspective. Ask your child if they have changed their view about a conflict lately.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend! Please reach out if you need support!

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS & ACTIVITIES & LATE BUSES
Our after-school programs will start on Tuesday, October 17th. The Activity Fee is $50 per student. PLEASE CLICK ON LINK My School Bucks or send in cash or check made payable to Chelmsford Public Schools and turn into your child's homeroom teacher. The activity fee allows students to take full advantage of any clubs they wish to attend. The after-school activities run from 2:40-3:40 on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday throughout the year. Students also have the option of taking a late bus home. The routes are posted in the school and will not be posted publicly. We will work with students and the drivers to be sure students take the correct bus home. Since we only have 8 late buses, for both McCarthy and Parker the stops tend to be more spread out than the “regular” bus runs. After activities, students who are not taking a bus will exit the school into the Crooked Spring Road lot and can be picked up there.
