In the Know: Celebrating Literacy and Inclusivity at McCarthy!
Favorite Book Character Day on Friday! March is Read Across America Month!
McCarthy continues to celebrate Read Across America throughout March! Each week, classrooms will be participating in a variety of events to celebrate reading, including the following:
- Decorating classroom doors to represent their favorite books
- Reading with Partner Classrooms of students
- Inviting guest readers, such as Fuller middle schoolers to read in classrooms
- Participating in Whole School Read Aloud Books
Rock Your Socks on Thursday! It's World Down Syndrome Day!
World Down Syndrome Day is marked each year on March 21, beginning in 2007. The 21st day of March was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. On this Thursday, let's celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing our craziest, most mismatched socks all day! Mr. Smith's sister also will be joining our school community on Thursday to help celebrate this special day! In addition, here are some great resources about disabilities and inclusivity:
Warmer Weather Attire at McCarthy
With the warmer weather approaching, we have noticed a change in the student attire at McCarthy. Administration would like to take a moment to ask all families to ensure that their students are wearing comfortable and appropriate clothing for school.
- Please remember that slip-on shoes are difficult for students to run and play in during recess and PE. Please remind students to wear or pack sneakers.
- Regarding shoes, Healer shoes (shoes with wheels inside like roller skates) are not allowed at school. For students safety and to decrease disruptions, please keep this footwear at home.
- With spring rain comes wet equipment or muddy puddles... and then wet or muddy clothes. For younger students, we welcome sending students with an extra pair of clothes to stay in their locker for such an occasion.
- Current clothing trends include midriff shirts that often show the front of the body between the chest and the waist. However, this attire is not appropriate for school. Please ensure that all students wear clothing that covers this area. If they fall while playing outside, clothing is a simple, yet effective protection against scrapes and bruises.
- With warmer weather comes air conditioning. A light sweatshirt or hoodie is great for the classroom, so that students can dress in layers and be comfortable to learn throughout the day.
McCarthy Events This Week ~ Grade 2 Concert & Kindergarten Tours
Grade 2 Music Concert on Tuesday, March 19th
On Tuesday, March 19th, all Grade 2 families are welcome to the upcoming Music Concert. This concert will take place at 8:40 AM in the McCarthy Cafeteria. Due to limited seating in the cafeteria and disruption to other classrooms, we ask that all siblings remain with their teachers during this presentation.
Please arrive by 8:25 AM to find appropriate parking. Parking in the fire line is prohibited and could be subject to towing. For additional parking, please park across the street at Farley, Framingham's Administrative Building, formerly Mass Bay.
If you have not signed up to attend, please reach out to our main office to sign up immediately. Failure to register will result in a delay in attending the concert. All guests must be checked in prior to attending the concert. Badges and the check-in process has been completed for families who had completed the Google Form by last Friday. Check-in on the day of the concert requires a picture identification and waiting to check-in at the office.
Kindergarten Tours This Thursday at 9:15 & 6:30
Welcome to the Class of 2037 at McCarthy! This Thursday, March 21, at 9:15 AM as well as 6:30 PM, our school will be hosting Kindergarten Tours for all families who have registered their child for Kindergarten next year. During this time, families will receive important information regarding McCarthy as well as a tour of the school!
If you have or know a child that will be five years old by August 31, 2023, the deadline to register for Kindergarten in the fall is fast approaching! We are encouraging all families with incoming kindergarteners to complete the registration process by next Friday, March 31st. Visit https://www.framingham.k12.ma.us/kindergarten for details. All new incoming Kindergarteners must be registered - even if you already have children in Framingham Public Schools. The KINDERGARTEN BOOKLET is a helpful resource for your family as well. We look forward to seeing our future McCarthy families!
