A Message from the Administrative Team
Greenwood Students and Families:
The third annual Greenwood Spring Showcase will occur on Thursday, March 21 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm. This event will “showcase” student projects, performances, and fine art displays as a way to celebrate the talented students at Greenwood. This concept is similar to the old-fashioned open house. We will have performances, demonstrations, and “showcase” the wonderful talents of our students and teachers. Classrooms will be open with work displayed. Listed below are a few examples that will be “showcased” at this event:
- The Spring Book Fair will be displayed and open for purchases in the Event Center.
- Music and talent performances from Band and Choir students. Approximately 31 students will perform.
- Mr. Duff’s computer science students will be conducting demonstrations.
- Our Speech & Debate students will give speeches.
- The 6th grade Utopia projects will be displayed.
To encourage engagement in the classroom, students in 6th and 7th grade will be piloting a new practice of putting their cell phones in individual pouches when they walk into a classroom and retrieve them when they leave. See the section below for a visual on what they will be using, and the entire practice is attached. The student learning environment can be difficult to navigate with the distraction of a cell phone. Placing them in the holders will allow for a safe place to store them to bring a lower level of distraction and higher level of engagement for the students. We appreciate your support for this new practice. If there is an emergency and a parent needs to contact the student, please call the main office at 417-836-5124.
It is unbelievable that we are heading into the 4th quarter! We encourage all students to buckle down and finish strong! Stay engaged with your academics and on top of your deadlines!
ENJOY SPRING BREAK - GO Blue Jays!

From the Secondary Counselor, Mrs. Ewing
The spring semester brings into focus a few things for our secondary students that Mrs. Ewing will spotlight in the next few newsletters. These topics include next year’s scheduling, summer enrichment & leadership programs for all grades, and scholarship opportunities for seniors.
NEXT YEAR SCHEDULING:
All students, 6th through 11th grade, should have brought home scheduling forms for next year. Selection of Studies forms were due to Mrs. Ewing by Monday, March 4. If your son/daughter has not turned in their form, please make sure this is done immediately before leaving for or upon returning from Spring Break. It is important to gather all student selections to begin building the master schedule. Contact Mrs. Ewing with any questions at 417-836-5950 or CoyeatteEwing@MissouriState.edu.
A zoom session was provided for parents on February 20 detailing next year’s scheduling information. If you have not had the chance, you can listen to that recording at this link:

3 Senior Spring College Decision Handouts
College decisions bring a mix of emotions. Some students get into their dream schools while others may not get any acceptances at all. These handouts may help you through the next steps:
1. COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE OZARKS (Various Scholarships) – CFO’s scholarship season is open, as of Jan 1! The application deadline is March 24. Seniors should use their personal email to set up an account. CFO has moved to a Universal Application process allowing students to apply for all CFO scholarships for which they qualify through one comprehensive application.
Students will create an account and answer several eligibility questions in the UA. Based on their answers, they will receive a confirmation page which will list the scholarship opportunities that they were found eligible to be considered for. Some scholarship opportunities will require answers to supplemental questions.
Specific criteria information can be found on the “Scholarship Criteria Preview” page on CFO’s website: https://www.cfozarks.org/resources/scholarship-criteria. See step by step instructions on the following pdf: “How to Apply for Scholarships” How to Apply for Scholarships.pdf
2. Junior League of Springfield Scholarship – The ideal candidate will have exhibited exceptional leadership and involvement within her community. Apply online at https://www.jlspringfield.org/founders-fund-scholarship/. Application deadline is March 31.
