Marlette Elementary School
March Update - March 11, 2024
Note from the Principal - Mr. Reynolds
Hi everyone,
On March 4th, we celebrated our Family Reading Night at Marlette Elementary with over 165 students and their families in attendance. Our staff worked diligently to turn the elementary school into a pirate's reading cove. They labored tirelessly for multiple hours the last few months to make it the best experience for our students. I would especially like to thank the following volunteers: Jessica Wirges, Linda Laursen, Helene Kraft, Janet Kraft, Don Spinks, Cameron King, Logan Schlueter, Jill Thomas, Melissa Kelly, the staff of the Marlette Library, Rachel Hager, the Humphrey family, Connie Ross, Ayden Geno, Linda Bush, the Shaw family, Susan Hutchens, the Dean family, Pat Kitchen, and Donna Putnam.
After Reading Month is Spring Break. It has definitely been a long stretch from January until now. I hope everyone takes a well needed break and enjoy the rest and relaxation. Once we return, it will be the final push with standardized testing and end-of-the-year school activities.

Pre-School/Kindergarten Round-up
Just a reminder that our Pre-School/Kindergarten Round-Up is this Wednesday, March 13th at 6pm. If you have a child who is entering school age, please come check out Marlette Elementary and all that we have to offer. We will also be serving hot dogs, chips, and water. If you have any questions, please call Marlette Elementary at 989-635-7427.
Why Reading Proficiency is Important by Third Grade?
Reading well at a young age is a strong predictor of success in education, employment, and life. Students who are not proficient readers by the end of third grade are more likely to struggle throughout their school career, which leads to high dropout rates and less students being college and career ready.
Marlette Elementary is taking huge steps to make sure all students are proficient as individually possible by identifying struggling readers early, utilizing different Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions as needed, and researching the best Science of Reading curriculum to adopt for the next five years.
