Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5
Dear Saint Raphael Parents &Friends,
“Don’t let go.” When we were little, we were told to hold onto things so we wouldn’t lose them.
Hold onto your toys. Hold onto your lunch box. Hold onto your sweater. As we got older, we
were told to hold onto your money. Hold onto positions of power in your workplace. Hold onto
these things because they will bring you happiness and success. But do they?
Our faith and Jesus tell us a different message. True happiness comes from letting go and letting
God into your life. Material goods and power do not bring us lasting happiness. Jesus said,
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
Lent is a good time to accept Christ’s invitation to return to God. His love never runs out. His
mercy is greater than any of our mistakes. Christ invites us to let go of the things of this world
and turn to a light that leads to everlasting life. Isn’t this the message we want to give to our
children? Don’t we want to teach our children to be unselfish and not hold onto things that will
not last forever? I prefer to give the children this message of hope!
