A Message from the Principal

Dear Sward Families,

We are dedicating this week to the importance of our veterans and their selfless service to our country. Teachers and students have been spending time talking about the different ways to honor veterans and what is appreciated most about them. In honor of Veterans Day, please consider having your child wear red, white, and blue on Friday, November 10. Sward will have a Veterans Day Assembly Friday morning that is student led. Our student council has an itinerary full of excitement for all of our students. The Cub Scouts will be leading a presentation of the flags, chorus will perform, poetry contest winners will be announced, a guest speaker is scheduled to come out and speak to us about his service, and a delicious Veterans Day Breakfast has been donated by a few of our local businesses for the Veterans to enjoy with their Sward student. Please make sure to ask your children all about it Friday after school.

SWARD is Recognized by the State of Illinois as EXEMPLARY

A big congratulations is very well deserved to our amazing Sward teachers, students, and families. Last Monday, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released data used to evaluate all K-12 public schools in Illinois. This year Sward received the highest designation status of “Exemplary”', awarded to Illinois Schools performing in the top 10% of all schools within the state. We are very proud of our achievement at Sward and hope to continue to lead the state in performance!

Veterans Day

Friday is the day to pull out your red, white, and blue clothing to wear for Veterans Day. Please do not feel like you have to go out and purchase anything, any shade of red, white, or blue will do. The image on the right has been designed by our very own student, Ava Peterson. Great work Ava!

Coat Weather

Our students love their recess time where they are able to run around and enjoy being outside with their peers. Please make sure your child has a coat and is dressed appropriately for the weather to ensure their warmth during recess.

Menu Change

Monday 11/13 we will be an apple oat bar not strawberry.
Monday 11/27 we will have the chocolate chip breakfast rounds
Tuesday 11/28 we will have the bagel and jelly.

Veteran Wall of Honor- Don't forget to send in your bricks

The Veteran Wall of Honor Bricks came home in your child's Take Home Tuesday Folders today. This is a wonderful Sward tradition that allows us to honor our Veterans. These paper bricks will be crafted into our Veteran Wall of Honor for Veterans Day. With this wall, we pay respect to all of the veterans that are a part of our Sward Community.

If you have veterans in your family we would like to honor them, please complete these bricks and return them to school by 11/9/23. If you need additional bricks, please reach out to the Sward main office at (708)423-7820 and we will send additional bricks home with your child.

Leaf Raking Event - Save the Date

Visitor Aware Pre-Registration

Safety is always our Priority at District 123. Please use this quick and easy registration link to set up your visitor information that allows you to visit Sward.Once you complete the registration, you will receive a QR code via text or email that allows you to enter the building. D123 Special Education Partnership Meeting
