Important Information for Seniors
Congratulation Class of 2024!
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
Congratulations to the Class of 2024! I have known many of you since you were at West Middle School!! It has been an honor to watch your journey which has led to this important milestone!!!
During these last few weeks of high school, please enjoy your remaining time with staff, friends, and your family. Please be safe as you engage in celebrations and in making memories!
This special edition newsletter shares some important information specific to our senior class as they prepare for the last few weeks of school.

CHECK SCHOOL EMAIL FOR ALL REMAINING INFORMATIONAL UPDATES
It is very important that students frequently check their school email accounts from now until graduation. All remaining communication specific to graduation will be shared by email.
It is important that graduating students create a personal email account to transition to after graduation, as they will no longer have access to their school accounts.
Senior Class Meetings- April 17 *OR* April 18
There will be two options to attend a Senior Class Informational Meeting. Seniors only need to attend one of the two options.
April 17, 9:00-9:30 WHS Auditorium
April 18, 1:30-2:00 WHS Auditorium
Important information regarding the final weeks of senior year will be shared.
Sioux City Community High Schools To Hold Graduation Ceremonies May 21 @7pm
This year, West High School will host their graduation ceremony on Tuesday, May 21 at the Tyson Events Center. North High School will hold their ceremony on Monday, and East High School will hold their ceremony on Wednesday. This new schedule will be the consistent schedule for the following years to come.
There is no limit this year to guests, and no tickets needed. We welcome all family and friends to celebrate this special day!
During each ceremony, a professional photographer will take a portrait photo of each graduate, which will be available for graduates and families to purchase. Following each ceremony, a recessional will be held to guide patrons to an appropriate location for family and friends to gather and capture memorable photos.
Because the Tyson Events Center is secured with metal detectors, all patrons of the graduation ceremonies will be required to pass through the detectors upon entry into the event. In accordance with Tyson Events Center guidelines, and out of respect to all graduates and patrons, the following items will not be permitted:
- Helium Balloons
- Silly string
- Cowbells
- Air horns
- Large bags / backpacks, coolers or boxes
- Bottles, cans, glass containers, liquid containers or other projectiles
- Any food product, coolers or backpacks
- Laser devices
- Projectiles
- Skates, skateboards, or scooters
- Strollers
- Alcohol or illegal drugs
- Tobacco of any kind
- Animals, other than service animals
- Signs/posters
- Any item or action deemed to challenge public safety
- No Weapons of any kind, including Lawful Concealable Firearms
- Any other item deemed unacceptable by Tyson Events Center Management or the Event Producer
Current Grade Status- Out of Building Privileges
In order to maintain any "Out of Building" privileges, all 12th grade students must be passing all of their required classes. Schedules may be changed to reflect a study hall in place of out of building if classes are in failing status, and the students counselor will meet with them regarding such a change.

-May 9th NAACP Senior Celebration @6pm (Career Academy)
-May 14th @6pm Native American Senior Celebration @6pm (Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center)
-May 15th @5pm Senior Honors Assembly @ 5:00pm in the WHS Auditorium (Business Casual Attire)
*Students please arrive @ 4pm to check-in.
*Who attends- This event is for students receiving honor cords that have a 3.0 Cumulative GPA, scholarships and other special awards. An invitation will be sent home first week of May. Students must complete Scholarship link by April 29th.
Other Important Dates
-April 28th Scholarship Link Due (Include all scholarships awarded to you even if you are not attending that college).
-May 1st- Notify college of decision (college you are attending and those you declined)
-May 1st Common App Final Report (email your counselor)
-May 1st-12th AP Testing
-May 2 College Signing Day in the Media Center (We will have a ‘symbolic’ signing of college intent and photo opportunity.
-May 5th Order Final 8 Semester High School Transcript through Kuder
-May 5th Order Final Transcript through Witcc online ($5). Register for college orientation.
W.I.T.C.C. Spring 2024 Semester Imporatant Dates
Senior Final Days- Laptop Check-in Procedures
Tuesday, May 14 – A Day Laptop check-in during 3rd & 4th
Wednesday, May 15 –B Day Laptop check-in during 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th
Thursday, May 16 – A Day Laptop check-in during 1st & 2nd
Thursday, May 16 – DCA Make-Ups 3rd & 4th (last day to make-up or retake DCA's)* & Laptop Check-In
Thursday, May 16 – All Senior Grades are due by 4:00pm
*Students will need to check-in their laptops as soon as they have finished with their final assignments or DCA's.
- Students must remain in class during all testing periods; no early releases
- There will be no early testing, no exceptions
- All other school materials must also be turned in: text books, chargers, hotspots, uniforms
GRADUATION INFORMATION- *IMPORTANT*
- LAST DAY FOR SENIORS IS THURSDAY, MAY 16. FOLLOWING 2ND BLOCK, SENIORS ARE INVITED TO A COOK-OUT IN THE BACK OF WHS, AFTER WHICH THEY ARE INVITED TO BOARD A BUS TO TRAVEL TO OUR WHS FEEDER SCHOOLS FOR A GRADUATION WALK FROM 12:30PM-2:30PM.
- IF A STUDENT HAS NOT MET THEIR REQUIRED GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS BY MAY 16, THEY NEED TO STOP BY THE COUNSELING OFFICE ON MAY 16 TO SCHEDULE A MEETING WITH THEIR COUNSELOR TO PREPARE A PLAN.
- IF A STUDENT WANTS THEIR NAME PRINTED IN THE GRADUATION COMMENCEMENT PROGRAMS, ALL REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET MAY 17.
- IF A STUDENT COMPLETES THEIR REQUIREMENTS AFTER MAY 17TH, THEY MAY STILL PARTICIPATE IN THE GRADUATION COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY, BUT THEIR NAME WILL NOT APPEAR IN THE PROGRAM.
- IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GRADUATION COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY ON TUESDAY, MAY 21 AT 7PM AT THE TYSON EVENTS CENTER, STUDENTS MUST HAVE COMPLETED ALL OF THEIR GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS BY MONDAY, MAY 20. STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT MET GRADUATIONS REQUIREMENTS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY.
- THERE WILL BE NO RESTRICTIONS ON THE NUMBER OF FRIENDS OR FAMILY WHO WANT TO ATTEND THE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY.
- CAP & GOWNS- STUDENTS WHO WISH TO DECORATE THEIR CAP OR GOWN MUST SPEAK TO MS. RIEKEN ABOUT THEIR REQUEST PRIOR TO GRADUATION IN ORDER TO RECEIVE PERMISSION. THE REQUESTS MUST HAVE A CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE TO THE STUDENTS HERITAGE.
- GRADUATION PRACTICE WILL TAKE PLACE ON TUESDAY, MAY 21 @8AM
- STUDENTS WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GRADUATION COMMENCEMENT ON TUESDAY, MAY 21 MUST ATTEND GRADUATION PRACTICE THAT MORNING.
- IF A STUDENT NEEDS TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE TO GRADUATION PRACTICE, TRANSPORTATION WILL BE AVAILABLE- WATCH FOR EMAIL WITH MORE INFORMATION ABOUT AVAILABILITY.
- SCHOOL FEES AND ACCOUNTS- STUDENTS MUST RESOLVE THEIR STUDENT ACCOUNT WITH THE BOOKKEEPER BY MAY 20.
- LUNCH ACCOUNTS- SENIORS NEED TO PAY OFF OR USE THE MONEY IN THEIR LUNCH ACCOUNTS BEFORE MAY 16. SEE MS. BRANDI IN THE DEN IF YOU NEED TO TRANSFER THE FUNDS OR REQUEST A REFUND.
