Welcome to Dr. Rogers
This week, we welcomed Dr. Noah Rogers as interim principal. He is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina. He earned his bachelor's degree in History Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then completed a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership at Norfolk State University. He also holds a Doctorate in Education from Virginia State University and now serves as an adjunct professor there for future educational leaders. During his career, he has served as classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal at (both middle and high school), and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. His favorite past-time activities include gardening, reading, walking trails, and eating at different restaurants. He is the youngest of nine siblings. He looks forward to serving the John Champe community as LCPS begins the search process for our new principal.
Library
Tremendous thank you to our amazing librarians Catie Cote, Sarah Anderson, and library assistant Lea Flippo for all they do each day for JCH, not just during National Library Week this past week. They contribute so much to the life of our school and have made a wonderful makeshift space while our former library is under construction.
Testing
AP Testing begins on May 6th. Please refer to emails from Mark Ziminsky regarding test dates and payment. Testing rooms will be sent out to students at least one week prior to their test date.
Spring SOLs will take place on May 20th and 21st with an alternate bell schedule. More information can be found at lcps.org/ChampeTesting
Calendar Survey
The student superintendent advisory committee is seeking community feedback on what they think would work best for everyone before making a decision for next school year. Please complete this Superintendent's Student's Advisory Committee - School Calendar Survey
to voice input for a school schedule that works for everyone.
SoS + SCA Spirit Collab
Our spirit days during the week of April 15 are keyed to different aspects of well-being. Positive friendship is Wednesday's well-being connection. So much of kids' social lives happens online the high schoolers need to learn to communicate in safe and healthy ways. These skills will help kids -- and the people they're communicating with -- have positive experiences online. The following tips can help your kids make friends and interact safely online.
Class of 2024
Counseling
For SENIORS and their parents -- If you are college bound or planning to attend Northern Virginia Community College or any trade school, you will be REQUIRED to complete the FAFSA.
The FAFSA opens on December 31, 2023. Since the FAFSA is opening so late this year due to revisions, you should try to complete the form within the first two weeks of January (not required, but strongly encouraged). Your student will not receive a Financial Aid Package from whatever school they get admitted to until the FAFSA has been submitted.
