Notes from East Hill Elementary
March 28, 2024
Dear East Hill Families,
I want to remind everyone that there will be NO SCHOOL tomorrow, March 29, in observance of Good Friday.
We packed a great deal of learning and events into 4 days this week!
Tuesday was such a great day going "Around the World" with our string team! Our Grade 3 students were treated to a special performance by our fantastic Orchestra teachers Mrs. Adele, Mrs. Berner, Mrs. Cheney, Mrs. Mercer, Mr. Mercer and Mr. Reardon. The students were able to hear and see all of the string instrument options they will have the opportunity to play starting next year!
We would also like to thank our WGHS French teacher, Mrs. Lonergan for bringing her students to East Hill to teach French to our third grade students on Wednesday! Our Wildcats LOVE having the older Wildcats visit and share their knowledge with us. Merci beaucoup!
Our fourth grade students performed a science investigation this week called Light it Up. The students had to build closed circuits and make light bulbs light while problem solving and answering questions. We had support from our district Math and Science Coach, Mrs. Jessica Fisher, and our retired assistant superintendent, Mr. Brian Kesel!
Thank you again to our PTA for purchasing solar glasses for all students for the eclipse that will be taking place on Monday, April 8. Our students brought home a form with information about the certified glasses as well as a permission slip that can be returned to school by Wednesday, April 3. Students that return the slip will be given the glasses to take home on Thursday, April 4 for the eclipse.
Thank you to our PTA for working hard to reschedule our Makerspace event for Saturday, April 6. There are more details on a flier below and we hope to see you there!
Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend,
~Susan

Universal Pre-Kindergarten Registration Is Now Open
West Genesee partners with local Community-Based Organizations (CBO) for its Pre-K program.
To be eligible for UPK during the 2024-2025 school year, a child must:
- Have a birthdate between December 2, 2019 and December 1, 2020
- Reside in the West Genesee Central School District
In the event that more registrations are received than can be accommodated, the District will conduct an initial selection process via an open lottery in which children will be selected at random.
Those children who have completed the registration process by May 1, 2024 will be part of the initial selection process.
Families who were part of the initial selection process will be called in order of selection and informed:
- whether their child has been accepted to the program, and
- which site (including hours of the program) is available for their child;
OR
- where their child is on the waiting list.
Families will be contacted by May 2-3, 2024.
If at any point after the initial selection process there are more students registered than seats available, students will be placed on the waiting list in the order that their registration was completed.
Transportation to and from the program is the responsibility of the parents/guardians, and students must attend the program five days a week to maintain their seat.
Look for registration information on the Central Registration webpage at:
http://www.westgenesee.org/district-services/registration/. If you have any questions, email the Central Registrar at centralregistrar@westgenesee.org, or call Central Registration at at (315) 487-4683.
When registering, parents should be prepared to upload the following:
- proof of residency (ie. mortgage or property statement or signed lease agreement)
- proof of age
Students to Receive Free Breakfast and Lunch Meals
We are pleased to announce that all students enrolled at West Genesee CSD will be able to receive a FREE breakfast and lunch meal at school beginning December 1.
This implementation is a result of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) expanding access to the federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). CEP allows eligible schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs to offer school meals at no charge to all students.
What does this mean for your child(ren) attending the school(s) identified above?
Effective 12/1/2023, all students enrolled at West Genesee CSD will be able to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day regardless of the family’s household income. Milk is free with a full meal. No further action is required of you.
If you have any further questions, please contact Food Service at 315-487-4661.
Please click here to read a message to parents about free meals for students.
