What's New In STEAM
6th Grade: Road Trip Project Based Learning
The 6th graders have been applying their decision-making skills to plan a road trip while managing a strict budget. Students are also integrating their knowledge of U.S. geography to optimize the selection of attractions along the trip. The final presentation showcases students' creative problem-solving strategies and provides an opportunity for them to practice communication skills during the presentation.
7th Grade: Lake Erie STEAM Project
In conjunction with reading “A Long Walk to Water” in ELA, our 7th graders are digging deeper into purposeful service by learning about current happenings at DLDT, a Cleveland-based nonprofit, and further examining issues impacting Lake Erie. In STEM class, students are immersed in a project aimed at raising awareness and contributing to the mitigation of a pressing environmental concern affecting Lake Erie.
8th Grade: Pinball Machine STEAM Project
The 8th graders have been fully engaged in designing and building a functional pinball machine! Students took on the challenge by demonstrating hands-on engineering skills to create all the various elements of a pinball machine, including left/right bumpers, a ball plunger, and creating a unique theme. They did an amazing job executing their blueprint ideas from start to finish. The kindergarten students spent a few minutes today playing the pinball machine games, and it was a memorable experience for everyone!

Strongsville Women's League Presentation on Teen Mental Wellness
On Wednesday, March 20, the Strongsville Women's League will present "Protect Our Children: Teen Mental Wellness" at 7:00pm at the Strongsville Middle School, 13200 Pearl Road.
The speaker will be Gina Marek, founder and president of the non-profit MY FAVE FIVE App. The MY FAVE FIVE App helps individuals aged 13 and older identify, connect, and build relationships with trusted people in their lives while developing healthy coping skills.
Gina founded her non-profit to honor her son Jacob who died by suicide at the age of 15 in 2016. With the help of supportive friends, the idea of the MY FAVE FIVE App evolved as a way for Gina to channel her grief and work to fulfill her son’s purpose of helping others. The initial idea for the MY FAVE FIVE App was to help teens create their own networks of support. However, after seeing the isolation and depression caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Gina enhanced the App in early 2022 to be able to offer the App to everyone.
This event is free and open to everyone, those in Strongsville as well as members of the surrounding communities. The subject matter is most appropriate for individuals aged 13 and older.
Kids Heart Challenge Results
On behalf of the American Heart Association, thank you to our school community for raising $3,444.42 during SJJ's recent Kids Heart Challenge /American Heart Challenge program.
As a thank you from the American Heart Association, our school will be able to purchase gym equipment recommended by Mr. Vadini.
Families and schools are critical links in providing the foundation for cardiovascular wellness in our country. Our support and participation in the Kids Heart Challenge/American Heart Challenge made a tremendous impact in helping millions of Americans through increased awareness of cardiovascular disease, lifesaving scientific research and critically needed education efforts.
Great job SJJ students and families! A special thank you to Mr. Vadini and Mr. Clark for organizing the event for us!
It's a Small World!
Our 5th grade students have begun writing to pen pals from San Jose Villanuevo in El Salvador.
Each 5th grader is writing to a student who will then return a letter back to our Vikings. The process will provide a valuable learning experience for all involved.
The students sent off their letters this week and are eagerly awaiting a response!
