Milestones testing

for students in grades 3–8 | April 16, 2024

Dear GLOBE parents/guardians,

Georgia law, as amended by the A+ Education Reform Act of 2000, requires that all students in grades 3–8 take the Georgia Milestones: End of Grade (EOG) in the content areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics. In addition, students in grade 5 will take Science, and students in grade 8 will take Science and Social Studies.

Georgia Milestones is designed to provide information about how well students are mastering the state adopted content standards. Importantly, Georgia Milestones is designed to provide students with critical information about their own achievement and their readiness for their next level of learning—be it the next grade, the next course, or the next endeavor (college or career). Below is the schedule for the administration of the EOG in the DeKalb County School District. It is imperative that students attend school each day and arrive on time so they will not miss any sections of this important assessment.

You can help by taking the following steps:

Limit evening activities prior to testing so that adequate time is provided for rest.

Provide a nutritious breakfast.

Ensure your student(s) arrive at school on time. Any student arriving after 8:30am (at Lower Campus) will be required to take the test on a make-up day.

If possible, please avoid scheduling doctor/dentist appointments during the testing period.

Middle school students must bring their Chromebook to school fully charged everyday.

Discuss the importance of testing with your son/daughter.

If an issue arises that may impact your child’s performance, please contact a school counselor.
