Mini Mustang Matters

A Note From Mr. McCallum
These kids are growing up faster than the grass around here this spring! It is really incredible to see how much physical and academic growth is happening lately. I'd like to focus on complimenting our parents and guardians who have been good partners with the school and have collaborated with us to be a part of the solution to various challenges our kids and we as a school family face together. In particular, I want to thank all of those who have volunteered their time, talent, and treasure to make Clio Elementary and the experiences for Clio kids "The Place To Be!"
You'll see we have a fun-filled and busy calendar this next month, and up to the end of the year. On top of that, you may have heard our Boosters have purchased a brand new Gaga Pit and a couple of WatchDOGS built it today. I'm not sure if our lunch aide Mr. Phillips or the kids had a better time out there, but was the top playground attraction today! A few other highlights from just this week include the amazing Sundaes With Moms event put on by our Boosters, and the Wednesday and Thursday Kindergarten Round-Ups (if you missed them, make sure to go on May 7th). Next week promises to be just as exciting with Musical performances, 1st grade Field Trips, and our 3rd Graders taking their first M-STEP. Wow! We certainly want our Mini Mustangs to do well in each of these endeavors and again, appreciate your efforts to make sure they are ready to tackle each day and do their personal best!
The Clio Kindness campaign promotes positive behaviors that lead to positive growth and well-being. It hopes to encourage more acts of kindness in the community. Each month has a theme. April's theme was We Forgive. Several teachers at Clio Elementary volunteered to talk with their students about kindness and the importance of apologizing and forgiving others. The Clio Rotary Club will be visiting these classrooms in the near future to talk with the students about ways to be kind and to listen to all the amazing acts of kindness these kids are performing on a daily basis. The Rotary will also be giving some amazing Clio Kindness t-shirts to these classes. This campaign is sponsored by various churches and local nonprofit organizations including the Clio Rotary, the Clio Can-Do Series of Races, and the Clio Area Human Services Fund.

Showing P.R.I.D.E. at CES
Families-we believe that "spring fever" has officially hit at CES (or the full moon perhaps?) Whatever it may be, we would value your support in reminding students of our behavior. You will notice the P.R.I.D.E. Matrix below. This is our expectations we teach throughout the year in each of the areas. Ask your children to let you know about their classroom's specific expectations! Please have a conversation this week about the importance of following expectations in school so that everyone can stay safe and learn.

CES Custodial Team
Custodial Services at CES
Before many of our staff or students even wake up and by the time they are going to bed to rest at night our custodians at CES are hard at work preparing and cleaning our building so children can learn in a safe clean environment. During the day our custodians clean up milk spills, sickness, and manage maintenance concerns throughout the building. Our night time custodians welcome evening guests and clean up every classroom, bathroom and office from all of days activities. They shovel the snow and make sure the playground is safe. In summer months while students and teachers are taking a much needed break, our custodians are prepping and deep cleaning our school ensuring that it is ready for the long year ahead. We are so grateful for our amazing custodians!

In years past I was able to work at all the schools in the district.
This July will be my 6th year at Clio.
Being an alumni of Clio Schools and starting kindergarten here at CES formally Garner has made this year very special to me and brought back many fond memories.
I also like that each day is always different and hearing all the funny things the kids say.
When I am not at work I enjoy riding my electric bike and kayaking with my boyfriend.I also have 3 grown children and 6 grandchildren that keep me busy!
