Around the School Spotlight
We have loved the dry weather and even some sunshine this week! Our building is filling up with Spring as student artwork is on full display; making our days a little brighter.
What better way to make City Government come to life than to become the City Government! Mrs. Smith’s 2nd Grade Class created their own town, voted in Mayor and City Councilors, and led a “Mock” City Council meeting. During the meeting, students decided if their city should build a new park in a downtown area. A pro is more outdoor space, while a con is losing parking for downtown businesses. Each student had a role to play from HOA members, business owners, kids, reporters, and of course - those in government. This hands on experience gets to be followed up with a tour of our City Hall with one of Sherwood’s very own City Council members.
Conferences
Conferences are a great opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher and learn about their progress so far this year as well as areas for growth. Teachers sent home a sign-up on April 19th via email. May 9th and 10th are designated for conferences. While we understand families head out of town or are unable to attend for various reasons, please know teachers are not expected to conference at another time.
Spring Emergency Drills
All Sherwood schools will be participating in our third and final round of emergency drills for this school year April 22-May 3. Each school will select either a "Secure" or a "Lockdown" drill for this final round. These drills are an essential part of our emergency preparedness, and help students and staff to practice specific actions that would occur in an emergency situation. Practice drills such as these are also an opportunity for our administrators and staff to collaborate with the Sherwood Police Department to continue improving our safety plans. You may notice increased police presence if you are on/near our campus during an emergency drill, as our SROs do participate in checking our building security during the drill.
During drills, staff and students are secured within the building. No one will be allowed to enter or exit the campus until the drill has been completed.

PAC Corner
TONIGHT! Family Movie Night ~ Friday, April 19th at 6:00pm. Bring the family and a blanket for a fun movie (The Super Mario Bros. Movie-PG rating) watching event! Free popcorn and water for Hawks View students, candy and snacks available for purchase. This is not a drop-off event, parents must stay with their children. Unsupervised students will be asked to leave, as this is a volunteer run event and we don’t expect our volunteers to manage student behavior. Thank you for understanding!
HAWKS VIEW CARNIVAL ~ May 3rd, 4:30-7:30pm. Join us for a fun filled evening with fun games, food, music and FUN! Do you want to avoid standing in long lines?? Pre-order your activity punch cards and food options below.

STEM Earth Day Projects
Hello Families,
K-2nd grade will be creating Earth Day projects again this year beginning on April 26th using recyclable materials. Can you please send me the following clean and dry materials from your bins?
cardboard boxes (tissue, crackers, snacks, cereal, etc)
thin plastic containers (salad, take out food, etc)
jar lids (plastic and metal- all sizes)
small plastic bottle caps (soda, juice, water, etc)
thin plastic bottles (water, juice, etc- all sizes)
egg cartons
milk/juice cartons
I would like to avoid glass and hard plastic such as laundry detergent containers, because it isn't easily cut.
I appreciate your support.
~Mrs. Bretsch
