Crime Stoppers Summary
Council Corner
- Andy Kahan, director of Victim Services and Advocacy, presented at the Civic Center 4/9/24
- Encouraged anyone to use 713-222-TIPS to provide anonymous information about a crime.
- Pattern of increased crime in Houston since Oct 2019 due to trend of defendants with serious multiple charges released with PR bonds.
- PR bonds are personal recognizance bonds. They are granted by a court judge once the individual's case has been reviewed and their criminal history has been completed during a pretrial hearing. The judge determines if the person poses a threat to the community. The judge decides the amount of the bond.
- When Andy began documenting murders done by people with more than 1 felony bond, he discovered hundred of cases of repeat offenses.

- Know your state representative is and encourage them to pass strong anti-crime legislation.

- Election day is May 4th (Saturday)
- Early Voting April 22 - 30, 8 am - 5 pm Mon - Sat, 8 am - noon Sunday
