Parent/Guardian Input
The Portage Math Teams have been working to create a district Mathematics Vision Statement. We value your feedback as parents and would love to hear your contribution to the vision of mathematics education in the Portage Community School District.
Here are a few things we considered when creating our vision statement.
The classroom should be a supportive place where people work together.
Every student should be able to learn math at their highest level.
Students should be an active part of the learning.
Students should know how math connects to do the things they love.
Students should focus more on growing. Mistakes are normal and okay as long as we use the mistakes to get better.
Portage Community School District Mathematics Vision Statement
“By fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment, the PCSD math community empowers all students to reach their highest potential in understanding mathematics. Students actively participate in their learning, embrace a growth mindset and develop a strong mathematical identity preparing them for their futures.”
Please send any feedback to Matt Dietzenbach, District Math Specialist, at dietzenbachm@portage.k12.wi.us.

Time spent in front of screens can impact digital eye strain. The 20-20-20 rule is an easy way to support your vision to avoid eye strain. Another way to care for your eyes is to seek out routine eye exams by an eye doctor, also known as an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Routine exams offer a way to examine the wellness of the eyeball, identify treatable conditions, and treat acuity issues. If your child displays any of these warning signs, an eye exam by an eye doctor is the next best step. Medicaid and BadgerCare covers eye exams and glasses annually. Other insurances may cover exams on an every one or two year rotation. If you do not have insurance coverage for eye exams or glasses, contact your school nurse for resources. A listing of local eye doctors is located here.
